So I decided to run the GE last night while I was in the kitchen working on something. It has a new motor/pump along with many other parts from the rebuild I did last fall. It has worked fine since that time. I was in the kitchen the whole time it was running.

It started and ran fine until it got to the point in the main wash for the soap dispenser to open. As soon as the dispenser opened the machine shut down. Motor stopped and lights on the panel went off. First thought was the breaker had tripped but couldn't figure why. I opened the door to take a look inside. Nothing looked amiss so I advanced the timer to off and closed the dispenser cover. I continued to advance timer thru a new wash cycle until the dispenser cover opened. Closed and latched the door and it took off and continued to the end without any more trouble.

Never had this happen before. Any thoughts?

It's a mechanically tripped dispenser correct?
If I remember, there's a long plastic lever that trips the dispenser that also rides on the timer cam.
I'm wondering if the shock or vibration from the dispenser trip, maybe have bumped the timer off of its power contacts?

Just a thought.....

That could very well be the answer though its never happened before. The dispenser door does open with good force and always makes a loud clunk. And maybe the original timer/contacts have reached the point of having just enough wear that this is going to continue to happen. Will see.
