Fred and I had quite the weekend with dragging home some amazing dishwasher finds. We found both a mid 1970's Hotpoint and absolutely MINT Imperial 18 KitchenAid that looks like it was used maybe once and put away.
We were both laughing hysterically as we kept having to push the machines out of the way as we were cooking Sunday dinner to get to different areas of our kitchen, but we've always wanted a U-shaped kitchen lol! |

The Hotpoint is super cool! It seems to be a hybrid during the transition time that Hotpoint dishwashers were becoming GE made. It appears to have a Hotpoint tank, racks, detergent dispenser and upper spray nozzle, with a GE spray arm and GE pump and motor assembly!

Can I come live in the attic? LOL
What fun! Those are gorgeous finds!! That 1970 Frigidaire is really similar to the '69 Andy found for us back in Oakland. That space-needle wash tower really did an amazing job. That was the best-performing Frigidaire dishwasher we've had so far. I love that KitchenAid!! Isn't it wonderful to find near-new machines? That Hotpoint is a hoot! I love the hybridized system--GE arm, Whirlpool bladder, Hotpoint tower! How's the top rack performance with the Hotpointian tower? Those always looked like they'd do a thorough job for coverage, although I wondered if food clogging the slits was ever an issue. Finally, a Dish-Potwasher, so that the pots and pans can come play, too. Whisper-Clean! How do you ever know when it's finished? ;-) Enjoy that marvelous haul! Dishwasher Tetris is fun. Ask me why I have one in the living room at the moment. :-) |

That's a riot! You've put words to an experience that I think many of us have had.

My mother had an avocado Hot Point Whisper Clean just like that one. I can honestly say cleaning dishes was far from its best features even with real old fashioned phosphate Cascade. Timer finally died and away it went many years ago. I wished I had kept the butcher block top.

These are really not that noisy, but the ones a few years earlier sound like a chain saw running! LOL |

Robert, what amazing finds you have brought home there...my goodness that KitchenAid KDI-58 is a stunner, puts everything we have in the UK to shame, including the Miele Professionals!
I hope to find some amazing dishwasher and washer sites when I visit the U.S. this year, my favourite dishwasher is the KDI-54 KitchenAid by Hobart, just love the style. Brandon.

What is the cycle sequence for those two machines? I remember the old GE/Hotpoint dishwashers from the 70s did something like 7 water change outs and 16 gallons of water. That latter changed to 11.4 gallons and 6 fills 51 minutes with a 35 minute dry cycle:
products.geappliances.com/Marketi... In the late 80s they went back to 7 change outs but only increased the water usage to 12.1 gallons. The cycle a bit longer with time taken away from the dry cycle. products.geappliances.com/Marketi... After that water usage declined sharply, a huge bummer imo. The Hotpoint GE hybrid were made until the mid to late 80s as I remember tons of them being tossed out from condos years ago. The ones from the early 80s were like the GEs at the time, 6 water change outs at 11.4 gallons (W-R-R-MW-R-R). Latter on they tweaked the cycle sequence where it was W-R-MW-R-R-R with one of the rinses moved after the main wash. While the Hotpoint is not as good at cleaning as the Kitchen aid IMHO, I have huge soft spot for old GE machines lol. In any case Awesome finds. I am in love with the Kitchen Aid too. The best Dishwasher ever built imo. Let us know how they work. Bob load pics too :D |
