I am attaching some pictures of the dishwasher. The dishwasher is entact, all parts are in place. The motor has burned up, but everything was working fine at the time the motor went out.

The dishwasher is located in Newberry, SC.

If anyone is interested contact: andjayhawk@bellsouth.net

Thanks for your help.

Would it be possible to source a motor for it

and make it operational for daily use? I would love to do it - put it alongside my Miele when we redo the kitchen but I think my partner would shoot me first!

OMG! Save this please! I wish I lived closer, I'd pick it up. Can't afford to ship it right now.

If only I did not live too far away - Colorado or Germany, take your pick, I would be there tonight.
Sigh.
I sure hope someone gets this beauty. This is what a real KA looks like and not the stuff they, er - "produce" nowadays.

My guess is that this is the same motor as on the KD-2P, which in turn may or may not be similar to that on the KDS-17A. I have both so I'll try to compare them to see if there's any possibility of swapping if someone can get hold of a parts KDS-17 or earlier.

Can't do it right now, on short lunch break.

This is in my Back Yard!

I can save this if someone can tell me if it can be fixed. My Dad lives less than an our away! I would love to use it for daily dishwashing. I hope someone knows the answer.

It can be saved, and probably should be - if for no other reason than it's a Hobart. These come up from time to time around here and on ebay so finding a working motor shouldn't be too much trouble, patience will pay off.

I've e-mailed the guy to see if it is still available. My dad lives in Columbia and has a truck and a place to keep it until I get a home of my own. Now I just have to talk him into making the trip. I'll keep everyone posted. If anyone sees a motor for it let me know.

Thanks to all

Good thing, too, Filter-flo. I checked out my 17A and the motor on that is quite unlikely to work on the KD-12.

By the way, the KD-12 looks quite nice in stainless. This is one that should not be allowed to slip away.

2 questions

jamman_98's profile picture
1. Can the motor be rebuilt?
2. Where does the soap go?

The detergent goes in the little rectangular screen box that can be seen sitting in the right section of the silverware basket. The 12 had a different pump than the 10, but the same racks. The "BIG improvement" was the 1 minute purge at the start of the cycle to clear the line of cold water and help warm up the pump. Before the purge was introduced, you just poured some detergent on the door, closed, locked and started it. In the portable KD2-P, the little detergent box was placed between the two front to back bars, rods, whatever in the middle of the top rack so I guess if you had a lot of utensils and silverware, you could move the box up to the front of the top rack.

Motors can be rewound and rebuilt. Robert had his Apex dishwasher motor rewound. I think it was about $350. You might want to bring it to a rebuilder to be sure it can be.

But remember, the motor being "burnt out" could mean a lot of things to an untrained eye. It could just be a loose wire.

Update 5/19/2006

jamman_98's profile picture
I got an e-mail from the guy and offered $50.00 to start. I hope I did not insult him but I explained that to repair the motor is expensive. Thanks Robert for the e-mail and posting about the motor. I think if I get it the motor migh not be bad as he thinks but If I get it I'll take more detailed pics and hope to get some feedback from ya'll. Maybe my Dad will help LOL.

Ok the guy let me have it for $50.00 and now I have to get my Dad to help me because I'll have to store it at his place. So part 2 is to talk to my Dad LOL. But June 2nd I'll pick the machine up. I"ll take some more pics of it too and post. I'm kina hoping my Dad will help me fix it - he needs a hobby now. I don't think I'll convince him to come to our side but he likes to tinker with stuff :-)

My Dad

jamman_98's profile picture
Well I called my Dad and he laughed at me but was willing to pick up the dishwasher. It will be an adventure. The only thing that I did not tell him was that he had to store it for me for a while until I get a home LOL.. Just a minor detail I forgot to mention ;-)

It's a beautiful dishwasher and I think once you get it running you'll be entranced by all its various and sundry mechanical music.

I know I am with my KD-2P.

Update on the Dishwasher

jamman_98's profile picture
Today my Dad and I went to Newberry to pick up the machine. I have to say I'm very impressed with it. You can eat off that beautiful blue speckled enamile (sp) inside! I discovered the cause of the problem. Seems that where the water enters in the dishwasher on the side, the gasket leaked and water ran down to the motor. Underneath the machine looks brand new. Even has the tags that come with the intallation. I don't have any more pics but promise that when it get's installed in my eventual new home I will post. I did try to take some pics of the motor that will have to be fixed. I hope I can find a person to rewind it as the black spots are where the copper is burnt to a crisp. Speaking of tags, I think the year of this machine is 1955 but not absolutly sure. Better minds will tell me. BTW I can tell that plumbing this thing is going to be a b*tch. I'll need ya'll help.
