This weekend CNN -"Great Big Story" came to film a Wash-In© at Dr. Frigidiare's . So Paul & Phil trundled down from the  frozen north and Eddie winged his way up from the warm south to attend ! What a help and what a fun weekend !

The entire crew from GBS consisted of Samantha & Farhad.  It should be noted that they now want to join the club !! So we converted them.

The boys arrived Thursday nite to help me get the place ship shape for filming all day Friday.

We had all the machines polished up, and Eddie - always one for details even swept out the floor of the basement on top of making breakfast and lunch for the Crew and all of us!

were very professional and yet put us all at ease. "Great Big Story" is a new show started in October and is entirely web based. The logo is the red rocket ship.  I am told the show should be available on their website inside of two weeks. It consists of 3 subjects each show. The link is in the above post. They will also have it up on Facebook.

We had a winter storm that day up to 5 inches, wet heavy snow. It was very dark and threatening however at the end of the day the sky cleared and Phil went out for some pictures.

We were so busy filming that we didn't take any pictures of the event!

Finally

jetcone's profile picture

on Sunday - today we were all able sneak back down to the basement and get on with restoring the 1961 GE and the 1960 Speed Queen.

Phil discovered some "issues" with the Speed Queen. We dealt with them. You can see in the last photo the back of Sam & Farhad gathered around the Youngstown. I made everyone margaritas after the shoot!

Can't seem to get past number 13 in the last reply.

As an aside - has anyone noticed when there's an event/gathering in the northeast, and a camera comes out, how many times Paul is in the shot?

Just sayin.....

Jon that is so cool about CNN!

You are going to have a "Dr. Frigidaire" star on the walk of fame before long.

Great pictures!

Glad to see the washers are getting air time, looking forward to seeing it. Any more feedback / donated washers / new contacts from the last segment you did?

Mike, but since the last show on CBS I've rescued a 1960 Speed Queen and a 1961 GE FF first of the perftub models. They are almost restored now.

Bruce- the producer Sam told us probably in 2 weeks, new shows come out on Tuesdays.  I'll put up a notice when I hear a definite.

Jon,

The new LG's come with a free Kitten!!  It was a buying factor for me.

This is a new Kitty that I found when she was 3 weeks old in a persons car engine at a Walgreens.  Pouring down rain and I park right next to a car and hear the poor baby screaming.  Her name is Tina Louise.  She loves to get in the dryer after the clothes are dried.  She will lay in the drum and take a cat nap while it is still warm.  I decided to get a pic of her.  This was before her little nap.  She is a trip.  Loves to watch the washer and dryer.  Wonder where she gets that from???

Thank you, Jon for letting us once again eat all your food, drink all your booze, exhaust the dog, and scrape out all the electrons from the house wiring!

The crew from GBS were very different from the CBS crew - they were really into the collectible angle but also the 'look how these things were made back then' angle with regards to the washers and dryers but also the vintage smalls and cooking utensil that Jon uses daily.  I can't wait to see the show when it's up on their site.

And Lawrence, I'll be back up on that screen again someday, so help me....

Where's the picture of LG Kitty?

New here but that sounds exciting. You'll all soon need your screen actors guild card😆
Anyway speaking of conversion I may have talked my coworker into buying a speedqueen as his went kaput. He especially liked the fact that they were in the US as his last washer parts had to be ordered and had to wait couple weeks to get them. He was none to happy about that.

Your welcome Paul

jetcone's profile picture

but you could have left me at least one drop of scotch, one electron to test the 1961 GE FF and a drop of gas so I could get to the store and back!

I have to agree with Paul I feel we made a connection to the Crew Sam & Farad on Friday. They really enjoyed themselves with our machines.

Welcome Brandon! Love that dog .

Tom the kitty is on Brent's Avatar. LOL thats a riot she likes a warm dryer.

What a nice weekend we had!

Since I'm back home, my phone keeps buzzing! I'm all confused with those text messages!

Here are a few more pics:

The last one is from my assigned bedroom. After I saw that, I was wondering if I was going to wake up the next morning! At least, there was no plastic cover on the bed!

;-)

The little LG cat's name is Tina Louise.

She is so smart and fun.  Too smart if you ask me.  Now if I could only teach her to fold clothes.

This is Tina and her new brother Tigger.  Tigger is 19.  Tina has brought new life to Tigger in many ways.

thumbs up on Tina bringing extra life to Tigger!

Cats are far smarter than people realize, sometimes. We were able to teach our cats a few words, some that they pronounced that were easy...like "out" was the easiest for them and they vocalized "ouuuuuut" when they wanted to go out.

I'm sure Tina would learn words, then.

I agree Phil.  Animals are a wonderful gift from God.  I think if everyone in the world truly loved an animal the world would be such a better place now.

who could say Mama plain as day.  Every night he would sit in the hallway outside our bedrooms and call "mama".  My mother would call to him and say, "ready to go to bed Lucky?" and he'd go crawl in bed with her.

Phil, glad you got to wake up safe and sound !!

I think I got the water valve working again last nite. The plungers were absolutely seized  with crud.

That kitty is gorgeous! The wash-in/CNN event was very fun. I had a great time! I will get you the recipe Jon for those cookies. And Eddie, the racks fit beautifully in the KDS17A. My friend's mom was thrilled when she saw them. when you get back, I may have to take you up on your offer of a 4 Way HydroSweep. Hers for some reason, the center bearing has been working itself out. I had to push it back in to reset it. I have never seen a KA wash arm do that before.
Mike

Mike, your cookies were awesome! I had to eat the last one!!

Jon, good to see you fixed that valve! If it causes problems again, I think a replacement would be fairly easy to find.  It seemed to be the same style as those on 1960s Frigidaire washers (and other brands too).
