Hello to all,

I have a Maytag model A412 Serial number 277237NN.
Mfg year and month NN=July 1984
I purchased the washer back in September 2009.
I disassembled and cleaned it at that time.
I have the parts list dated 2005 Maytag Services.

My questions are these...

1. Since this is an older serial number with only 6 numerical digits,
I can't determine the Series of this model.
On the newer machines, there are 8 numerical digits in the serial number.
This causes some confusion to me on the parts lists & drawings,
which contain the following text:
series 00 (on list pages 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 18, 20)
series 11 (on drawing page 5 - list page 6)
Prior to series 11 (on page 3)
series 04 (on drawing page 9 - list page 10)
Series 10 (on drawing page 13 - list page 14)
Prior to series 10 (on page 11)

2. Have the prior to series 10 transmission on page 11
How many other series of this model were actually produced?
Any design changes to each series?

Hope to get some insight on this, Been surfing this site for a few years now.

Maytag customer service has no records of this model (other than the parts list)
So they could not provide me with that information.

Thanks for any info

Doug

According to my old Maytag brochure, your 412 is the bottom of the Extra large capacity models with a normal and permanent press cycle but no Fabric-Matic delicate cycle. Doesnt matter, that washer will run forever since all real Maytags like that have the same guts. My 1982 511 has run like new with only one repair.

Yes, it is a great machine, Nice tub size for larger king size bedding items.
Just had to replace the belts when I got it back in 2011.
Planning another cleaning of the tub and lint filter scum.

So my model is a series 00 with a 6 digit serial number?
I say this because, from my understanding, the first 2 digits
on an 8 digit serial number are the ones that determine the series?

I tend to be pretty techy when it come to details.
This site is really nice for that, with some real old school advice.

Just need to clarify for proper parts replacement, when needed.
Some changes in the series sometime mean different design parts
with different part numbers.

I have seen other info on series 02 and series 04.
No serial number breakdown, though.

Maytag Serial # System

MT did not have a series # system on machines built into the early 80s, this came in the 80s.

Kinda figured that. So if I need parts with no series, I choose the part number
for series 00 on the parts list, then go online to match.
If the part has been superceeded, I need to make sure that the part
will cross reference to the OEM part on the parts list.

Don't see a real issue with this, just wondering why Maytag printed
the parts list with different series options.

How many years was the A412 Model produced? Perhaps there are some models
out there with an 8 digit serial number that indeed denotes the series.

Anyone got a pic of an A412 model tag with a 8 digit serial number?
Be interesting to see.

Thanks for the great info!

Maytag A412 Washer Tub Cover Installation

Maytag tub cover to tub installation (The smart way)

01. Before installing the tub cover gasket, mark the tub cover 1 inch
up from the lower edge all the way around with a marker or tape.

02. Install the tub cover gasket to the tub cover (the groove side faces up)
slide the gasket up from the lower edge until the top of the gasket
is lined up with the mark

03. Install the tub cover and gasket to the tub
be sure that the mark on the tub cover is maintained
also be sure the lid switch support is parallel with the rear of the frame

04. Place four 1 x 3 x 1/4 inch thick wood shims at 90 degrees to each other
between the tub cover and the top of the inner tub.
This will ensure a 1/4 inch gap between the tub cover and inner tub

05. Be sure that the tub gasket is seated against the outer tub.
Tighten one end of the tub cover clamp to the original installation mark
(hope you marked this on removal)
Position this end of the clamp at the rear left corner of the drum.
Install and tighten the right front clamp bolt.

06. After doing this procedure, there will be a 5/16 inch gap between
the tub and the top panel...Worked like a charm!

Maytag Washer stopped working

I have a Maytag washer Model A412 Series 4 that I purchased used in 1988 and it has been a wonderful washer. The problem started a couple of days ago. The ceiling light in the laundry room burned out(it must have been a omen)and the next day when my husband went to do a load of clothes the washer wouldn't start.
The breakers have been checked and there is power to other appliances in the room (dryer and water heater).

I thought it might be a wiring issue with the control panel. Any ideas?

are the dryer and water heater electric 230?....if so, those would be on their own circuit breaker away from regular outlets....

have you tried plugging into another outlet, on another circuit, in another room.....not always recommended to use an extension cord, but for this quick check it should be fine...

trying to recall, some of these machines had a fuse as part of the lid switch.....if that blows, the machine will not work...

Possibly the lid switch moved, or is now defective, and is no longer working. You should hear an audible "click" when the lid is opened, or closed.
