Vintage Yellow metal Cabinetry in Missouri

It looks like a classic 'decade remodel' on a budget.

It looks like it was originally a 1950s Youngstown kitchen, probably in white, with the tile work, counters, and clock outlet being original.

Then in the 70s, they upgraded the cabinets with the same sizes, to make it easy. Added a mid 70s dw, probably removed the free-standing farmers sink to accommodate the dw, and had to put in a small piece of new formica. Took out what was probably a circle flourescent (notice the paint ring on the ceiling around light) and installed the hanging 'old west' fixture that was a thing in the 70s.

In the 80s, the 9x9 asbestos flooring, was probably starting to come up or wear, so they added what you see. I wonder if they went over the old stuff.

In the 90s, they "did it them selves" with the wallpaper. Dear god, the pattern match is AWFUL. LOL Some of the pieces actually look crooked. Look how the pattern was mashed together about a foot out, on the left side. LOL.

But I love this. This is WHY I moved back to the midwest. In California or the East coast, it would just be one brass ring in the nose DOUCHE BAG after another, wanting doze the house and put up so gray, ugly, concrete POS, so "they could FLIP it".

If I bought this, I wouldn't change it..... much. LOL. OK, new formica counter tops, something neutral..... and a good cleaning. Dear lord, WHAT does one have to do to get that much crap under your stove?

Checkrate/Likes Interesting cabinety! Somebody went to a good deal of effort to repaint those cabinets. Or the house was owned by heavy smokers who did a lot of indoor frying... LOL

Checkrate/Likes *nice sturdy cabinets* A nice set of cabinets in this kitchen, my guess is original Harvest Gold-match to DW panel looks perfect. I like those above countertop corner windows. I hope there is some restoring and renovating of some of the historical houses the agent lists- the 1902 brick two storey with interesting brickwork detailing deserves to be lived in again and the purchase price-well a lot different than on the West Coast of US/Canada.

Checkrate/Likes 1 A little too much Harvest Gold for me. I remember seeing Youngstown cabinets on display in the early 70's that were Harvest Gold, Avocado, and Coppertone. I also saw metal cabinets in the Sears catalog in those colors.

Checkrate/Likes Wow, I had no idea that metal cabinets were around long enough to be offered in Harvest, Avocado or Coppertone. I thought that the shading on these ones in the St.Louis house was pretty damn good...

Checkrate/Likes Paul, steel cabinets have been being made all along. It's just that they are not marketed as kitchen cabinets, but rather for labs and other commercial uses. One manufacturer is located in Cincinnati. CLICK HERE TO GO TO CircleW's LINK
