As most of the guys in the UK know, the media are being relentless on the WHIRLPOOL Corp issue with Hotpoint/Indesit/Creda and now Swan tumble dryer fire issue.

This Morning TV has done a feature on it every day this week.

Of course Hottie are saying they will get to everyone to fix the dryers, some have been offered new models at discount.

However with the amount of affected dryers, and the amount of engineers there is, it is calculated that it is going to take 5 YEARS to get to everyone.

TM is now saying that the government should step in and consumers should get full refunds and the dryers out of homes (750 or so of the 5.5M affected have actually caught fire)

I was just thinking, do you think hotpoint will be affected by this to the point where they could irreparably damage the brand if they don't recall, and we could lose the brand altogether?

What do you think?

Brand

The Brand was damaged the day Indesit company completed their mass takeover!! The Hotpoint style dryer was derived from the Creda model produced from the UK factory in Yate Bristol hence models pre 2004 are not affected, then the box style heaters where cheapened from metal sides to alufoil covered cardboard and the bearings drum parts made thinner of a lesser grade...given the fact that people never clean fluff after every load and keep the air intake free of dust & detritus its a recipe for what we are now seeing...

Personally I cant complain within days of registering a 5yr old TCD770p appliance it was swapped out FOC for a brand new Whirlpool condenser dryer with a 10yr parts guarantee....

Agreed,

Hotpoint went to pot when Indesit got it.

Glad yours was sorted so quickly.

I am not directly affected, however, my mother is, by way of me - a "spare" tumble dryer that I gave her a year or so ago.

She has just registered, and is now waiting.

Yes I remember being saddened to hear that Hotpoint had been bought by Indesit. I knew that quality and repairability would suffer as a result.

Would the compact dryers be affected by this recall? I know they are an old design but have they cheapened any of the parts?

Tom

My five year old dryer is one that's affected and registered it in November last year. Was told I would get a repair this month. I don't want to change it even though I've had the option. It's been a good dryer.
As for hotpoint/whirlpool they are going to loose a lot of customers. I said on the this morning page why don't they just give everyone a new dryer for free. OK in the short term they will be out of pocket but in the long term it wilt pay off and people will start to trust them again. If they don't do something properly soon they will just loose the brand.

Personally like a few have said... The day Indesit bought out hotpoint it was a sad day and a good name lost

Affected

Tom, It can be any dryer sold between 2004 and October 2015 - you can check on their website if your model is affected.

Rob, that's what I was thinking, they now have to do something. As This Morning said they are not letting it go, I think they have took it on championing Hotpoint into doing something.

It's been a main feature on every show this week.

Well ya don't want yer flat catching fire cuz nobody told ya.

Foil over cardboard for the heatbox? Yipe! And "ONLY" 750 caught fire? A mere bag o' shells. Unless it happens to be YOUR house.

What WON'T these guys try to get away with?

Compact Dryers

Hi Tom, the compact dryers appear not to be affected, BUT they have now stopped manufacturing them, Chris Pierce was searching for them alas - discontinued !!

Am sure Whirlpool will contest and make an insurance claim on the Indesit shares buyout for what they are losing, what remains to be seen of the Hotpoint & Creda brandnames will be anyones guess!!

Why is This Morning saying that Whirlpool dryers are faulty? They're not, Whirlpool just owns the other brands...

This Morning needs to get their facts right, I've answered loads of people questions fretting that their Whirlpool dryers are affected...
