Hello Everyone!
I haven't been on for a while as my computer has been on the fritz and in the shop 3 times now.
Let's hope all is well this time.
I was on Craigslist a couple of days ago, (damn I shouldn't go there!) and I saw an ad for me and one for a Friend.

For the Friend?
A Maytag A512 washer (single speed, extra-large capacity) and it's matching Dryer DE/G312. Both look to be in good condition although the dryer's interior shows a little wear.
Get this though, $50 Bucks for the SET! Can you believe that?
I'm hoping my Friends get off their asses tomorrow and we pick it up.

And for me?
Another KitchenAid. This one is a Whirlpool made machine from about 1990.
It's the Superba "Architect Series". I didn't get a pic of the model # but it is a 22.
The only brochures I have of that design are of the 23 from 92-93 and then the same 23 from 95-96.
It's been used a lot and is in need of some TLC, but it's not too bad. And it's still a durable KitchenAid machine.
It sat in a heated storage room for a few years. There is some rust in the base of the sump, but not rusted through or anything. A bit more concentrated in one particular spot as it was stored on a tilt and that's where the last of the water sat and ultimately evaporated away. I think a good cleaning with CLR should make it sparkle as well as it can.
The racks are ok, but some definite wear and a couple of rust spots.
I'm hoping to get it picked up tomorrow or Monday. If it works well I'm thinking of making this one the heavy duty one and relegating the 19 to the plastics dishwasher. I haven't actually used my Bosch for that since I got the 19 cause the KA is so much fun.
And here's my question to you KitchenAid experts:
Is it better to use the 22 for the heavy duty stuff and the 19 for the less intense stuff?
I assume the filtration is better in the 22 but don't want to be stuck with a single rinse unit as I believe the 21 was.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I don't expect this one to have the longevity as the 19 to be honest though.
It's more used and worn than the 19 and so will not stand up as long as it's predecessor even though it is about 10-11 years newer.
Oh, this was a great adventure by the way. Sadly, his father had passed away in November and he was cleaning several years worth of stuff out of a six-plex rental property. He had an old Kenmore canister vacuum cleaner (green), and two stacked agitators amongst a few other things in that small storage room. A white Whirlpool Surgilator-(Canadian style), on top of a black bakestone GE Spiralator Activator. He realized I knew my stuff and we chatted a bit more and he showed me pics of two machines I didn't see that were in another room.
A Maytag A11 wringer and a similar year General Electric Wringer. Pretty cool.
It was nice to meet someone local who knows of these things and/or has an appreciation and history with vintage machines.
I told him about this club so he may be lurking on and off and hopefully enjoys the site.
I'm looking forward to yet another new KitcheAid experience and hope this machine is working well after a good clean up.
Thanks for reading my thread and for any advice and suggestions.
Oh, got the Maytag DE50 back in November.
Haven't opened it up or anthing but I believe it is the typical belt issue with the clear exhaust fan belt.
more on that another time.

Nobody?

Hmmmm.....I may not be the most consistent poster on here, but I did post asking some advice for my 'new' dishwasher and not even one reply now in a week.
I don't like to play the "poor-little-me" card, but thanks for the help and advice from the people I THOUGHT would be the ones who could help me out.
I'll jut have to figure it out myself.
Thanks anyway, folks.

I'm a bit surprised by this too, TwinTubber. Very rare that a post goes unanswered here. I would have answered, but I've only had KitchenAid experience with my 18, and a bit with my parent's old Kitchenaid/Whirlpool hybrid. Hopefully someone will answer the questions that you have.

It has been rather slow or quiet around here as of late. Guess people have lots on their plates and don't get to pop in as often.

As one does not have much to offer besides "congrats" on the new arrivals (am not that up on automatic top loaders or dishwashers), will leave it at that; am sure others will be along in their own fashion.

Maybe that photo of the "Punk Rock Trends 2016" is keeping them away?

Did your friend pick up the A512? Did it come with the operating instructions?

Thanks for the Comments!

I always appreciate your replies, Barcoboy. Yeah, I found it rather odd and surprising myself that there was no response. Oh well.
And glad your KA is still running strong for you.
Thanks Launderess, I always appreciate your posts and replies on here.
And your Pic is priceless, "The Booookayyyy residence. The lady of the House speaking!". Probably another call for the Chinese Takeaway.
No, db130, my dumbass Friends want something "newer" cause they just don't get it. So they didn't even bother with the Maytag set.
Sigh..........
As for the Dishwasher, well, it's a lemon.
The bottom of the tank has rusted out at the base around the seal and is leaking. I tried that out before I even hooked it up.
And then I discovered that the fill valve is leaking as well. And I do mean it LEAKS. So, pretty much some parts is all it's good for and although I only need a couple of pieces, the rest is for offer to anyone who would like some parts from it. I really wish I could have used the racks in my 19, but they are unusable and nothing can be done to salvage them.
Such a shame that it is such a beautiful machine, but it has not been well cared for and has lived it's life.
I used the foil wrapped insulation and the upper spray arm for my 19 and that's a great bonus. But that's all I've gotten out of it so far and all that I will.
Anyone want some parts? Let me know.
Pics of it you want me to post, but otherwise no need to since it's sadly unsalvageable.
.

Hi bvf!

My Friends DIDN'T take the Maytag set.
So they don't have it, nor do I.
I wish I could, but I have no room for a full sized set in my small apt.
As for the KitchenAid dishwasher, there are some great salvageable parts for anyone who may need some.
Control panel, door panels in great shape, heck, the pump and motor probably work ok too. But not going that far to try it out since the tub leaks I'm not gonna bother with it cause that's the death call of a dishwasher.
The rest can be scrapped and used for any collectors who are interested.
Thanks again for the kind replies!

TwinTubber, I would be interested in the door hinges for my KDS-58 if nobody else wants them. Be happy to pay you a little something for them as well.

Hey Barco!

I'm gonna keep those for myself, sorry.
But, since it's not too far to send things to you and it's light, would you like the upper spray arm/chinaguard from my 19? It's the full sized version of the one you have and would be the "icing-on-the-cake" to your 58's full three level washing system. I'm using the arm from the defunct 22 and have taken the chinaguard off completely cause it's obstructive in so many ways.
Let me know

Darn. :-)

I've already got a full size wash arm in my 58... traded it with a KA I bought at a garage sale a while back for $25. Not sure what model it is at the moment. Thanks for the offer though.

No Problem

I wasn't aware you had already done so.
And great! That's got to be one incredible machine then at this point :)

And.....

Check out that nasty rusting on the upper rack next to the guide rail.
YIKES!!!!!
And what's up with that water feed tube for the upper spray arm?
SERIOUSELY???

The last of the batch.....

Nasty rust under the bottom rack and some chips in the porcelean.
And don't you love the cheap "fix-it" job using a screw and nut for replacing the activation switch in the door? Well done!
