Brand: Maytag
Type: Clothes Washer Country: USA Model: LA208 Serial: 393528AA manufactured January of 1978 As for the dryer, it was hard for me to see the serial numbers. BUT if it also ends in "AA" like the washer, than it would be the same year & month as the washer CONGRATULATIONS On the nice set of center-dial maytags. They do look very clean & shiney! :o) |

Thank you for your encouragement, panthera. Yes, I actually saw a similar dryer on Craigslist, running no less, for $35. For $20 more than the Ebay knob, I can get the whole dryer and not just a metal cap! Haha. Many thanks. |

Stick the knob on with some clear silicone caulk. It'll hold it pretty secure, but you can still pull it off when you want to. |

Thank you, cornutt. Silicone is a good idea, and would work as you stated. I will keep my eyes open for a clean chrome knob cap, but I may use your suggestion if I'm uable to locate one. Many thanks. |

If anyone has an extra Maytag center dial with crystal knob, center knob chrome cover cap, I would be happy to purchase it and pay for shipping. Mine has two clips broken, and will not stay on. Many thanks, Ken |

Let's de-code the model #s.
L = color code for Almond. A208 = Automatic washer, regular (smaller) capacity, 2 speed motor. The A208 was as high end as you could get with the smaller tub. The lower models included the A108 & super-BOL A106, both of which had single-spee dmotors. DE608 = Dryer Electric, 608 was 2nd down from TOL and utilized an electronic moisture sensing control. The 808 dryers had a lighted control panel and interior light. I don't know if the 608 dryers had lighted drums or not. My 1st set was an A208 & DE308 (timed dry only). I still have them and while I don't care for the timed cycles of the DE308, I love the A208. It offers cleaning capabilities and capacity that fit my needs nicely. Dave |

Thank you Volvoguy87. That is great information. They were both manufactured in January of 1978 as hippiedoll stated. Thanks. |

Kenneth, you will find that the overwhelming majority of the members here are extremely generous. All of us share the same love for appliances and will do what we can to keep another old beauty running. I have been the recipient of quite a bit of generosity as well. Kenny (Goatfarmer), among other members, have helped me out several times. Congratulations on your beautiful Maytags! They should serve you faithfully for years to come.

I had a maytag with that same leak...
I don't know the part name but if you lift the top of the cabinet open, it's attached to the side of the inside of the cabinet. The hose connects to it on both ends. Someone with more knowledge of the name of the parts will hopefully read my post and know exactly what I'm talking about. It seemed like a pretty easy fix from what I can remember. Roger helped me. Thank God for Roger! :o) |
