Hello, I hope someone can help me diagnose my washing machines very loud roaring rumble in the final spin.
I have had this washer for only four years. I do laundry for a family of four.
About a week ago, it began sounding not unlike a freight train speeding at a very fast speed.
What could possibly be the cause of this? Our family has had Maytags over three decades and never problems like this, and especially not so new.
I thought I was buying a quality appliance.

damaged bearing

water has gotten in the tub bearing through a failed shaft seal-apparently this is fairly common with these machines and not too tough to replace the bearing. These washers are made by whirlpool, last true maytags were last made in 2006...

Thank You!

and shame on Whirlpool for tarnishing the Maytag name.

The maytag name was tarnished LONG before Whirlpool acquired Maytag.

neptunes

The neptunes were what tarnished the name maytag. Now, it's nothing more than a whirlpool clone.

Neptune FL "bugs" were pretty much corrected by engineering changes during production.

Later Neptunes were a pretty good machine. The Amana-tags and to a lesser extent, the Norge-tags tarnished the name too. Neither were up to the Dependable Care machines.

Norge built Maytags were OK, not DC's, but not terribly bad.

My Neptunes and Maytag

I have 2 sets of Neputnes, the 4000 Model pair and the 7500 Model pair. I am still impressed with my Neptunes.
Maytag as a company, died. But thanks to this site and the people here we can cherish what it once was.
On the other hand, Maytag is alive and well..... and in my basement.....

whirlpool/maytag

Whirlpool and Maytag are now one and the same. Now, we see centennials, maximas and bravos.
