Alton Brown, the "cool" cooking show guy shows off some of GE's newest and coolest technology.

These are the best, most informative, entertaining appliance videos i've ever seen.

Sic transit-

I remember when Julia would have her staff tape over the brand names of her small appliances to avoid any suggestion of endorsements.

first thought, he IS getting paid for this. just like when Oprah "gave away" the GM cars. this is advertising. BUT, i DO admire Brown's kitchen/presentation/explanation skilz, and i think he does an EXCELLENT job as the narrator on *Iron Chef*. the recipies he presents on his own show are very solid too. not too fancy

Alton

If you look back in time, to the first kitchen, Alton Brown taped his show, it was all MOL, off the shelf GE, with a gas cook top and a 27 inch wall oven, no convection.

If you liked the Al Brown video, you'll like this site too. It goes more into the technical side of the dishwashers, with flash videos of the wash system and half rack wash option, in action.

I know people say new dishwashers are junk.........but these GEs have to be the least junky of them all. Maybe they're the modern day KitchenAid???
I must be impressed to say that.

I have the GE Tall Tub 7700 for 3 1/2 years now and love it. It washes really well and the controls are very versital and easy to load. I think they are the modern day KitchenAid!!

My G.E. fridge-freezer

What great and informative videos!.
I must say I have had my G.E. Side-By-Side for about 18 months now and it is fantastic it handles all our grocery loads quite well the automatic icemaker has not let me down and the fridge has just handled a very hot Australian summer easily, although it does not a '"climate-keeper2" model it seems to keep our food well enough.
Iaccept what is said about this technology but however in my life I have found all our fridges have kept our food reasonably well and I wonder if it again just an attempt to fool people into thinking that they must have this technology or the world will end.
Cheers people.
Steve.

GE Fridge

I have a GE fridge I bought new in August 2004.

I begged GE for a replacement and they declined. They said to call the tech as many times as I wanted, cause I had one year to get it fixed.

Issues:
Rests too long in the defrost and things in the freezer thaw, stick together and refreeze.
Runs too long before shutting down, freezing produce and other perishables in the fridge.
When the seasons change it takes the fridge a week or so to adjust and it runs erractically.
Slow to freeze and the ice maker is never full.

The bottom line: The thermostatic adjust is a bunch of plastic and metal strips with a 2 foot long adjustment lever. It is impossible to adjust or hold in tolerances.

The airflow baffles are on the same panel as the thermostat with a two foot straw thin plastic lever and moving it does nearly nothing too move the baffles.

Every technician said over and over: This is the trade off for meeting industry regulations for new refrigeration appliances. They simply do not have the cooling capacity of the older fridges. They also look at the parts they are installing and shake their heads in disbelief at the change.

In the basement is the old BOL Kenmore I took out of the condo that was manufactured in 1999. It is smaller but it runs like a champ and makes a container full of ice in a day. Do you have any idea how it kills me to give Kenmore credit for anything?

GE service is amazing. You schedule it yourself, on the phone and they are often here the same day.

Big Lament: $750.00 for a white box that is a huge disapointment.

I don't buy that and I think you are getting BSd. On another thread I am complaining about the quality of my KA fridge. This is a new fridge. I opted for the model just going out of production with the slider temp controls rather than the new electronic adjustments, I was thinking less to go wrong.

What the unit DOES do perfectly is refrigerate! Adjustments work well, freezer is perfect, ice maker makes tons of ice, fridge is precisely cool. In fact, it was a little too cold and frosted some of my vegs, so I adjusted it slightly and it cooled right where it should. This bit about the new ones not cooling because of industry regs sounds to me like some major CYA going on.

Maybe if we took your GE trays and fittings and my KA running parts and put them together, we would have one 1/2 way decent unit!
