My Washer is dead and need a well another ..I found this Speed queen washer for 100 bucks.. I have never had a Speed queen.. Is it worth hundred bucks the pics are terrible he probably has a flip phone from 2004 still.. I don't know what year but it looks like something in the 90s I think.. I also found this Maytag fabric-matic for 50 bucks .. Which washes better? My Fav washers are the Frigidaire 1-18 but there hard to find here..

If you go check out that Maytag, grab the agitator and move the tub around to see if the damper pads are still in place. |

I have the exact vintage Maytag I bought new that is 32 years old now with one repair and washes just fine as its twin dryer dries with no repairs. Parts are always available for the Maytag as they are all the similar build. That looks like a regular capacity model as my 511 is the extra large Fabric-Matic model. Today, I would pick a new Speed Queen if I had to buy new but to save $50 wisely, I'd go for the Maytag as used.

I'd go with the Maytag, hands down. First, SQ parts are far harder to get and far more expensive. Second, while even the least of the SQs is 10˄25 better than any of the plastic fantastic HE TL trash on the market today, there's no question but what they have some expensive weak points which Maytags do not have.
I think we all tend to fall in love with those lovely SS tubs and forget that the rest of the SQ innards, while, again 10˄25 better than the trash on the market today are just not as easy to service and as, yes, I'll say it, well thought out as Maytag.
Now, if I had to buy a TL today, and it had to be new, then SQ is the only one to come into question. Their quality is infinitely superior to the plastic-fantastic trash of the Maypool junk currently marketed by that gorgeous hunk. |
