Hey everybody,

Some of you will remember last summer I had a new center post welded onto/ over my old centerpost of my 1977 Lady Kenmore Heavy Duty washer, model # 110.72693430. If you remember, my tub and basket had some pretty bad rust going on. I sanded away as much rust as I could and applied POR15 over the whole tub and basket including the newly welded on polished steel centerpost. Also, you might recall that I had another tub and basket shipped to me from Appliance Express in Glendale, AZ. I am keeping that tub and basket for future use when my current ones finally go to washer heaven.

I was installing a new inlet/outlet valve (Valve Part #: 360168) on my washer last month and took the basket out to inspect it since I had the washer top opened up. I must say that it looks okay. I have some rust coming through the POR15 on the bottom of the basket but considering what it looked like last year I'm impressed. And, we do lots of laundry daily in my family. I have four kids. The center post is holding up perfectly and the tub is perfect as well. In the pictures the dirty looking areas are the areas where I applied a very thick layer of silicone prior to re-assembly last summer. There is NO rust in the tub or on the tub centerpost. I highly recommend POR15 for these types of applications.

So, this summer I am going to re-apply more coats of POR15 to the parts of the basket where rust is starting to show. The pictures show the rust but to the naked eye it is really light and I think another round of POR15 will stop it. The good news is that the tub, tub centerpost and the inside of the centerpost sleeve of the basket are rust free after about 8 months of constant use. Also, I applied POR15 to inside of the basket and it's holding up perfectly.

I'll apply POR15 again this summer and re-inspect in another year. Enjoy the pics.

That's really great news on the POR-15 front.

I have treated several center posts, and have a very rusty outer tub that is going to get a treatment much like yours, but I could not duplicate the longevity testing that you have done with all that laundry, not so quickly anyway.

What a great way to verify what many have said over the years on the merits of POR-15! Thank you!

Hey, while I am thinking about it, if you use your machine so much, do you have a spare timer? They are still somewhat plentiful for your model and were used in production through 1986, or a full 11 years of manufacturing use. I think I would have one on hand for the eventual case that the old one develops dead spots, etc. part number to search for is 660693.
