How unusual for this series not to see rust on the racks.

I always liked these machines and understand they are great cleaners. But all the ones I looked at had horribly rusted racks.

Rusted Racks

We can photoshop those in, for general authenticity. :-) I'm kidding.

Maybe this is a low, low mileage unit?

I have one just like this.....

philcobendixduo's profile picture
.....and indeed, the lower rack is falling apart due to rust.
If I was closer, I'd buy this for the racks and the black front panels.
(My black front panels somehow got ruined by a leak or something when stored behind the other panels).
The upper rack on mine is in great shape. It was replaced early on - maybe under warranty.
The bottom rack started rusting away after the warranty and I kept patching it up but it's beyond help now.
New ones with all the moving parts are no longer available and I've never found one on eBay.

It IS a great dishwasher, though. No repairs and, if I keep the holes in the wash arms clear, it does a good job washing the dishes.

Compared to the KDS-18 it replaced, it is VERY quiet.

The pics below are after I patched up the rust spots some time ago. Now, tines are falling off so patching won't work anymore. I would hate to have to replace this dishwasher just because the lower rack can't be replaced.

Any AW members near Walla Walla....

....that would be willing to snag this for me and then ship the racks and front panels to me?
I'll pay you the full price + shipping and you can keep the machine. I just need those parts.

I've contacted the seller to be sure the racks are really rust-free but haven't heard back yet.

Bill~ Is the JennAir version the same?

funktionalart's profile picture
I've looked at a few before, and have a line on the one in the pic below. I'd been considering the JennAir for awhile before getting the KA bug…just cannot remember if the Maytag racks being discussed here are interchangeable with the JennAir model.

I've downloaded your pics for comparison, and if I luck out I may be able to buy this JennAir soon--if the motor/pump/control panel are problematic, I could probably get the racks off to you! (But if it's a good machine, I may wind up installing it…). Want me to keep you posted??

This is the first generation after discontinuing of the Reverse Rack.  This has the saucer rack in the bottom rack like GE dishwashers as well as the pop up tower for the upperack.

JennAir and Maytag

philcobendixduo's profile picture
Hey, Allen,

I've never seen that JennAir before but it sure LOOKS neat from the outside and very similar to my Maytag as far as the controls and display go. Pic is too small for me to see the cycles, though.
My Maytag is a 1994 model.
If you find the racks ARE the same as the Maytag, do keep me in mind.
THANKS!

I'm still wanting/needing....

philcobendixduo's profile picture
.....the bottom rack for my Maytag dishwasher (pictured above) as it is rusting away and falling apart. I offered the Craigslist seller full amount to buy the machine and then have him ship me the rack but he wanted to wait and see if anyone purchased it. I guess someone did as I never heard from him again. PLEASE - if ANYONE on A/W has a rack or knows where I can get a NOS rack (COMPLETE with the movable parts) I'd very much appreciate it.
I Know I can buy a replacement ( for a HUGE price) but they don't have the movable rack parts which I also need.
