They want $200 for everything in the ad…I would love to have the fridge--especially if it's going to be $50 or less. Not a lot of these 80s/early 90s French door models around. Of course, I'm partial to black acrylic….:D

Recipe for whitener...
Phil,
You know, I saw that recipe posted up here somewhere a long, long time ago. I'm not sure if that paste would go deep enough to really restore these panels properly. My temptation would be to remove them and have an auto shop do a good white enamel job on them, then reinstall. Nothing looks worse than a yellowed white fridge…sure doesn't do much for your appetite when you open up the door... | ||

Great WP Ref These were really good refs, they still have a Porcelain-on-steel liner in the ref and freezer sections.
The door liners are not yellowed, they were made in an off white color, during the early 80s almond was the most popular color and the door liners went well with almond.
The gas range is made by Coloric, the MW part is built by WP., WP had Coloric building their gas ranges in most of the 80s. | ||

Almond vs. yellowed...

I was wondering about the door liners -- back in '85 we had a new WP side x side, almond exterior with the same interior crispers (smoky quartz), and it had almond/off white door liners. I presumed this black French door I posted would have had white door liners based on a similar unit I found here in AZ last week. (a 1992 model which sold yesterday--I was going to go get it!). I'm putting pics here "just because". It's a white/white top fridge, bottom freezer--I needed it like a hole in the head, but knew it was probably worth having….it was missing one crisper drawer, but really the thing looked quite nice inside and didn't show that horrible yellowing of the exterior handles, etc. which is such a hallmark of 80s/90s white appliances. | ||

I like how the 80s and 90s appliances had those black or white with the chrome trim inside and out. After the late 90s everything got so bland with the textured white handles and trim with no chrome at all. Blah. | ||

1992 WP Built Bottom Freezer Ref These were the last good BFRs built PERIOD, yes WP went to white door liners in the early 90s as part of the White on White look, WOW often aged badly as different plastic parts changed colors at different rates, overall WOW appliances were had to resell after about ten years because they often looked so bad. Consumers thought they were smart by just buying white appliances after all the colors of the 60s-80s and ended up buying appliances that had just as much planned O as the colored appliances had, LOL. | ||
