Afternoon all,

Here is the second machine I got on Thursday - a circa-1970 Bendix LTA washer dryer. This was the last Bendix washer dryer to be built in the UK before the Italian machines were introduced circa-1972.

As can be seen it needs a lot of TLC like the Servis but hopefully I can restore it.

James

great machine

you've got there James. And a rapid advance timer too, looks much more advanced than the lt in the timer design and layout at least.

And 3 cheers, that they put the extra clutch in to the blower drive, the noise of that running through the whole wash cycle I found needlessly annoying, that such a well mechanically engineered machine should make so much noise ( and the blower bearings are in good condition on the machine I used).

Another though, would this be the last european washing machine produce that didn't have a reversing tumble action?

How very cool, If I ever found one of these cool machines here I would differently add it to our collection.

Hopefully you can get it running well again, keep us posted as it progresses.

Wowzer James!

So, after a Hoover 3224 Keymatic and a Philips 707, you have managed to acquire a Servis toploader and an LTA!

Wonderful that this missing link in the Bendix UK market offerings has now surfaced, filing in the gap between the LT and LA and the silver fasciad Italian machines.

I do hope that, once the other project has been sorted, that you will be able to work some of your magic on this one. Certainly deserves a bit of a polish :-)

All the best
Paul

Nearly forgot this one too, from a recent haul of Ideal Home magazines (a 1970 edition I think)....

Hi,

It certainly is a lovely machine. I can't imagine the LTA was produced for very long knowing that the Italian produced machines came in around 1972.

I really like the fascia on this model and I suppose Bendix knew that the LTs fascia was looking a bit dated (after all the LT was around since 1960 and certainly looked like it). I'm so happy to see a rapid advance timer and a solenoid clutch to control the drive to the fan. It appears that Bendix were invested in revamping the well-known LT for the better.

Once I get the Servis sorted by the weekend all being well, I will make a start on preparing the Bendix. It needs a respray for sure!

Thanks very much for posting those pictures, it looks so smart and I hope that some day mine will look like that haha!

James
