Actually I'd prefer the GE/Hotpoint if I were buying.

I like the GE - haven't seen a stacked windowed Hotpoint with features like this GE(but avocado isn't my fav).

Hey Phil, the Louisville made Hotpoint wall ovens were exactly the same as the GE's of the same time period, with the exception of the control panel designs, handles, and window trim. I've seen the Hotpoint double ovens with windows in both the upper and lower sections - in standard clean, self-clean uppper only, and self-clean upper & lower. However, I've not seen the deluxe window trim shown on the Avocado GE on any Hotpoint models; they've all been the standard trim as used on the mid-line GE's.

As far as the cooktops, the Louisville made models were also the same as GE - in fact, whether sold by GE or Hotpoint dealers, they just said "A Quality Product of the General Electric Co." I'm thinking the ovens eventually (sometime in the 80"s) went to this also, with only one control panel design, sold at either dealer network.

Hotpoint built-ins made previous to about '72 were totally different than the GE models of the same time period. Hotpoint still had their factory in Chicago until the early 70's, and began phasing out production at that time. I think the cooking products were some of the first to move to GE Appliance Park in Louisville. Wish I had easy access to my 70's catalogs, but they are at storage, or I could give more detailed info.

Tom , I had no idea..and if I don't delve deep enough sometimes,my excuse is looking at the features and designs only. I've not seen what you described in Hotpoints. It sounds as though the pre-72 Hotpoints were different looking in design, then, too? Food for thought and investigation - right now, I'm trying to pack for a move in the middle of June..and then it will drag on. When things settle down, I'd like to spend more time looking at the difference /similarities, but I thank you for filling me in a little...really appreciate it.
