No John, just 2 speed. that's the exact number of buttons (1-8) as our Norge, said Norge 15, and I bet the exact same programming of each cycle, all the way down to E being hot wash/cold rinse normal agitation/slow spin. That dryer has the modulating burner. the dryer cycle sequence/position was exactly like ours too. And IJKL are cycles that have the max of 12 or 14 minutes to add extra minutes to the programmed letter position on the timer dial. Bring back more good and bad memories of our Norge pair. Yes, Wards always had the scrubber cap. I'd like to see a close-up of the dryer panel so I can see what all the cycles/lettering is. Our stop&dry was a horizontal lever on control panel that corresponded to the water level slider on the washer. I had a love/hate relationship with this washer. cycles weren't like a Lady K. THAT was how you did laundry and cycle selections.

Super Super great work in simply checking the Craigslist postings! Very Nice.
Robert, do they need anything at all like hoses or any thing that would be deteriorated after 51 years? Also, how were they kept, climate controlled I'd suppose in a very clean home without pets etc.? Just Curious.

Wow, that IS a very spectacular set! Amazing if you can get it to keep working fifty-more-years--although beware of the High Energy Bills & what the EPA is probably gonna think...
Then again, you will get twice as much wash all done... Incredible condition and the fact that these appliances were very-rarely-to-never-used...

Talk about the "right place at the right time"... WOW! And a never used dryer too? I repeat: WOW!
I have NEVER seen a scrubber cap on any brand other than a Kenmore! Very cool!
How neat that is has the older style agitator and it's not a solid tub.
Very cool and CONGRATS!! Kevin |

Robert, was the dryer rack included? Tom did an accurate description of the rack in reply #37. This is my favorite dryer rack arrangement of all time. Nothing else compares to it. But the flexibility came from the stop & dry and tub fin positions. This post was last edited 05/31/2016 at 19:10 |

Here's what our comparable Norge looked like as well as the cycle chart that applies to both. Sorry have little experience with documents and this is the best I could do. |

Who saw today's POD? There's also a POD of our Norge version--schematic/advertisement. Both of these have the filter system design I've never seen in reality. It had a filter stream spout at 12 o'clock that went out to an agitator mounted filter pan. but I guess it didn't make it to market with the GE Filter Flo being patented I imagine. |

Amazing how you can find them so pristine Robert. Amazing set here! Love the "safety spin" sticker still intact and in good condition.
I always felt like the lip of the outer tub jutting out from the underside of the cabinet so far into the wash area always looked "awkward" on these Norges. Anyone else know what I mean? |

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. The washer had a few minor issues from sitting unused all those years that I corrected, but otherwise now works fine. The machine has a four minute rinse agitation cycle but the fabric softener dispenser is injected during the last minute of rinse agitation directly into the recirculation system. I didn't think that was a very smart design, so I took my Dremel tool and gently modified the softener cam inside the timer so it dispenses in the 2nd minute of rinse.
The dryer is gas and I put a splitter on the gas line so I could hook it up. It works just as it should to dry clothes, however since it was never used the rubber drive tires that the drum sits on have flat spots and the dryer thumps quite loudly. All those years of the drum sitting stationary on the one side of the rubber tires has pretty much killed those parts. Heating the drive tires does very little to quiet it down. The other problem is it seems to leak water out of the filter port due to dried seals. I tried replacing them with closed cell foam, but it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference. Here was the original ad for the washer... |

Well, I'll make an editorial comment. The softener dispensed rapidly and we never felt it was too late in rinse cycle. Gave a chance for residual suds to be agitated out of the load and the final minute the softener neutralize said suds--i.e. suds killer. That was the only thing I didn't like about the Kenmore 800--2 minute rinse. Kind of a come-down from the Dispense-o-Mat.
The dryer is pretty noisy when tumbling even when in proper working order. Sometimes I'd stop the drum rotating just so I could hear what a normal dryer sounded like. Always kind of a ka-thunka thunka. After about 5 or 6 years of age, the safety switch would stick "on"/"in" unless you pulled on it when you opened the door. I never bothered. Open the door to that first notch and permanent press would billow out with that forceful air blower/circulation. Kind of like a butler handing me a garment or two to hang up while tumbling. (always while using fluff when hanging up clothes). That routine kind of conditioned me to this day. All my dryers I let finish the cycle and then put on air fluff and keep tumbling and pull out two or three garments to hang up, thus no non-tumbling wrinkles. that 3 position hamper door spoiled me for life being able to lay the door flat against the bottom of the dryer to unload the load into laundry basket. Thus I'll never own a drop-down Whirlpool dryer model again (the Lady Shredmore's mate. If I ever have to get one to replace my Maytag Dependable Care, it will be a Maytag with side-swing door and top-mounted lint screen. |
