The quotes are because its not a freezer at all, its an ice cream conservator and operates at a temperature rather higher than a freezer so the ice cream is not rock hard. Its from the 1950s I would reckon, I used to see these very often when I was growing up in the 1960s

probably Tricity manufacture. This is a typical British fridge from the 1970s, under counter, about 21 inches wide with a frozen food compartment - pre frozen food that is.

Bit of a trip down memory lane for me here as our neighbours had one of these when I was growing up in the 1960s. They had it when we moved to the area in 1965 and as far as I know it was still in use when they left in 1974.

I don't know in which reality this would ever be Art Deco! It says inside "Americana" - would that make it a GE?

The Velo was made in The Netherlands, in Barendrecht to be precise. They were sold as Norfrost in the UK too IIRC. I can't say often enough the later models are of inferior quality. Velaundry (as the name of the manufacturer was) used cheap components trying to prevent from going bankrupt. That policy was pretty much the reason that happened in the end.

Thanks to Steve for posting the items to the thread. Someone else has kindly added some items directly to the scroll bar above. Whilst it is much quicker to do so I would ask that folks please post to the thread if they have the time - as we can have a dialogue about some of the items like the Velo twin tub posted above.
It also gives a change to highlight something unusual as I will demonstrate below. So please, if you have the time, post to the thread. If you are not sure how to do so my email address is in my profile, I will be glad to detail how its done. |

Now here is a perfect example of something unusual.
OK, its a late version of the Bendix dryer around from around mid-1970s to mid 1980s - so what? What is unusual about this is that it is the larger 9lb version, something that is not obvious from the scroll bar. I had quite forgotten that the introduced this larger version until I saw this one, and indeed I think there was a 9lb version of the earlier styling too. And the price is very good as well given that it appears to be in good condition CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

Another walk down memory lane for me - my mother bought one of these in summer 1973, and I bought an identical one in Autumn 1979. Gotta say its expensive for its condition - these were designed for LH or RH cord entry and the blanking button for the side not used is missing.

Goodness, nine bitches watching this one :)
Its just down the road from where I live but at £65 it will be staying there, or at least I wont be buying it. It looks to me like it might be late 1980s. There must be some resemblance to a model I have previously featured as it seems from the wash control that the max wash temperature is 60 degrees but there is a button to boost that to 90 CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

And a brand I have never heard of, anyone ever hears of it before? I would guess that it is from the very late 1950s or early 1960s.

More of a curiosity than something that you could reliably use on a day by day basis I think. It must be from the mid 1970s at the latest as I bought a similar freezer myself in 1978 but has the later style of chrome handle attached on the side of the door - the hanging of the door on mine could have been easily change too.

Change to see what all the fuss is about. Needs a new door boot but that should be a deal breaker. I wonder if it has been converted from three phase and at that rating it must have a heater of some kind

Early 1970s. We have seen these before only last time they were included with a green Hygena kitchen, I posted here a couple of months ago. Again they are clean but £50 is a bit optimistic

Seems like I am jumping back in 10 year intervals - this is from the early 1960s. Interesting to see its not actually a double oven cooker, the "lower" oven is actually only a cabinet for keeping cooked food warm

An example of bringing back an old name to put on a modern product. The last product Parnall produced was a small tumble dryer. After the brand was discontinued the same design continued as Jackson and then for a very long time as Creda, where its was updated and somewhat re-styled over the years. Eventually the design did not look much like the old Parnall dryer as all, and soldiered on as Creda for many years. This is a Creda dryer with the Parnall name, and so things go in circles

Goodness me thats a blast from the 60's I am sure as Mum bought one brand new from the Gas showroom it was a lesser model as no timer but otherwise identical to the one shown, In 1973 My Uncle moved into a new property and he bought the exact one shown second hand from an auction and it worked flawlessly until he moved in 2001 and left it behind for the new occupiers.
I remember the pilot light on his played up so he always had a giant box of safety matches by the side of it he used matches for the grill and oven too but ours had the battery operated glow igniters, We bought a later stove in 82 that was plugged in so it clicked to light and had a clock you could set which was the main reason for having it so Mum could put stuff to cook and go to work, those were the days !! Miele dryer:
This model was launched with other models in 1975 until the new line was introduced a few years later. Earlier models had the lighter, greyish knobs. Most sold was the T333, which had the electronic moisture sensor. Bosch Exclusiv: The Exclusiv models have some extra features compared to similar normal models. But more important is that the Exclusiv models are only sold through certified (by Bosch) dealers. |

This was made by Philips in Halifax, they made a similar model with Philips on but it had a glass in the large square door frame. |

I cannot believe fro one nano-second that this processor would have cost over £250 when it was new, £50 would have been closer to the mark. The label must have come off something else

1958? Nonsense. 1968 is about it. My mother bought a successor model to this cooker in 1974, and ChesterMike has the intermediate model between my Mum's and this one.

The main (conventional) oven was a good baker, on my Mum's the top over had full thermostatic control but was a disaster to use, burnt everything. The simmerstat plate was not much use either as the support was slightly too small for the aperture i9n the hob so inevitably one of the supports would drop down into the drip well underneath - not the best of designs. I told my mother to buy a Tricity President or even better a Belling Classic :) |

No shortage of these about at the moment.
The one posted back up the thread was the first style in this series, this is the second. Note the ventilation grills at top and bottom are much enlarged - this oven required an aperture of 120cm. Around 1973/74 CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

This is not quite the next version to the one above - the layout of the controls has changed and a digital timer added, but the same knobs used as in the previous. This was updated towards the end of the 1970s with new knobs although otherwise pretty much as before

And this was the Tricity's main competitor.
Actually better featured as it had both the larger fane oven and a rotisserie - with the Tricity you could have one or the other but not both. It fitted into a smaller aperture, I think its about 100cm high, might be 90cm CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

No shortage of these Tricity ovens at the moment. This has shown up an interesting point as it must have been during this series that they moved from the smaller vent panels (with the overall height of the unit being around 1050mm) to the larger panels (overall height 1200mm) - see the two units I posted yesterday

From the same seller as the Tricity oven. Well it might be Wrighton although I am not fully convinced - Wrighton were absolutely TOL at the time and this does not look any great shakes to me! What I do know is that it is not worth £800 or anything like it.
Note the early Neff cooker hood - they kept this style, more or less unchanged, for a very long time after this kitchen which would be around 1974. CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

Hi Al.
We had the model before this which my mam must have got in the 60s. It was in a grey plastic case, was square with a round outlet that said dry nails on it, had the same attachments and a nozzle as well and a strap so you could carry it - not sure how useful that was considering our house only had one plug socket in each room at the time! We had it for years! Anyway, here is a Hoover New Wave CLICK HERE TO GO TO Sesteve's LINK on eBay |

I suppose you mean "Wäscheschleudern".
They used to be very common here, but nobody has one anymore these days. With frontloaders with a minimum spin speed of 1200rpm there is no need more. I still have a Miele one that is older than the one featured, but mine looks much better. I don't know what they did with it, but it looks heavy used or should I say not well cared for? |

This does look like a mid 1970s kitchen although it has been quite skilfully updated over the years, the appliances for the most part are much newer (probably about 10 years old) although it looks like it may have an original, décor panelled fridge. It has stood up remarkably well and still looks reasonably contemporary to be 40 years old

Beckerman kitchen looks like the old one from the TV series Shameless (UK version). The Elizabeth Ann kitchen is a nice middle class kitchen. |

These are the pictures Reversomatic was not able to post
This is from the mid-1950s and they do crop up from time to time - there is also one in the Science Museum in London. It comes from a time when they were looking for innovations in kitchen appliances and this was one way to make a premium priced cooker out of, frankly, not that much. When you take the eye level oven out of the equation, it is little more than a basic cooker with a very small oven and no grill chamber. I have added an advert for this cooker - "Heart-high" indeed I think the upper part of the cupboard may have a low power heating element in it for keeping food hot - the toggle switch on the front kind of indicates that. Had a good laugh over the fact the seller thinks the blender is too powerful. The motor is only 400 Watts, but I must admit the blender has the tendency to flow over. It has to do with the form of the jar, but it's a very good blender. No lumps in your smoothie like with a lot of other blenders.
This is an earlier model i.e. pre-1983. In 1983 these machines got a little security light under the speeds selector. The newer machines can be used again after being overheated. With older machines a fuse has to be replaced. The buy it now price is rather steep, the slicer is missing. No small bowl and no eggwhite and cream beater either. And for that kind of money they could have cleaned the machine! |

These were around for a long time, the 1950s at least. This is a later version with a three prong connector and if the flex is original then it is post 1970 when the core colour coding was changed

Although this design goes back to the 1930s (if not before) this model must come from the 1960s as it is BEAB approved.

I have that icemaker! It was Philips' first icemaker IIRC. Mine was only 5 euros in a thriftstore.
That toaster is a Philips classic, indeed from the seventies, probably late seventies when everything was brown. My brother and SIL got the chrome version as a gift on their wedding in 1978. It had some orange accents as well. |

I don't know much about Bosch built-in appliances, but I had a look at my Bosch brochures. Freestanding cookers with that same style controls were already in the 1987 brochure. They also still appear in the 1994 brochure, but not anymore in 1997.
The Siemens microwave from a bit higher up had already gone out of production in 1990. |

Thanks for your input. I based my date upon the later style of oven with similar door and flat metal control panel which I think we already said was later in the 1990s. There is also a resemblance to the controls of the Bosch washers although they retained the "control windows" for rather longer as far as I recall Al |

Looks oddly like a Wonderwasher.
I just love the UK appliances. All kept in such good condition.
Some of the kitchen units bring back memories. Shows such as Benny Hill, As time Goes By, Keep Up Appearances, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Love Thy Neighbor, To the Manor Born, Eastenders, The Good Life, and the movie Life and Loves of a She-devil come to mind. I am coming to the conclusion that these are the most common vintage kitchens I have seen. The design was around a good while, I am just amazed at how many crop up

I wonder if this dogs breakfast is an early model of what we now know as Indesit, the name plate is very reminiscent of the Indesit of the 1960s. Claims it is working and the price is certainly OK, might be a restoration project for someone

1970s I believe. Designed (or at least styled) by Kenneth Grange of Kenwood Chef fame

Back in the late 1960s and all through the 1970s many a British living room was graced by one of these fires

Cool styled toaster. What brand is it? Do you gut and remodel kitchens Vacbear, or are all these photos rental properties you may help manage during, and after tenants move out? |

Unfortunately I cannot see the toaster to recognise the brand, it is a modern, retro styled toaster rather than a retro toaster, I daresay its origin was China
"Do you gut and remodel kitchens Vacbear? This made me chuckle - only in my own home. The pictures are nothing to do with me at all, they are just ebay listings that I highlight: 1. In case anyone might be interested in buying or restoring a vintage kitchen 2. To let folks from other countries get a flavour of British styles - predominantly in the 1960s and 1970 - to compare with their own 3. Create a record for younger British readers to see how things used to be. For my sins, I am that species most hated here - a "bean counter" - and indeed my background is that very sort of bean counter working in manufacturing to reduce cost and increase company profits. So sue me, been doing it for nearly 40 years now, not many left to go. Al PS I have never worked in appliance manufacturing, so hold the stones and bricks |
