Hi forum,
This pair has popped up on eBay but is located right around the corner from me. They are being sold as a non-working set because they apparently need repair. Does anyone have any insight into these models? I'm definitely not paying the $200 opening bid for a non-working set but need to know if it's even worth reaching out to say I'm local and want to go look at them. Any advice (positive or negative) is greatly appreciated.

I've had a couple of sets very similar to these. Sometimes all the washer needs is a little lighter fluid on the rollers and the dryer may only need a belt and/or heating element. Very simple to fix. I've never had to deal with a leaky bellows on the washer -- that could be problematic due to lack of replacement bellows. Nice set, even for $200, just pretty to look at. Good luck and please keep us posted if you pursue!

go for it!

if they are nearby that makes it easier. I bet whatever is wrong could be fixed, probably without too much trouble. I got a 1973 1-18 set and both just needed minor repairs.

I read the post on ebay. I think that more than likely, the washer tub seal started leaking. That will cause the washer to not spin because it gets a little water on the spin clutch roller. When that happens, the bearings need replacing too. It would be worth getting if you want to rebuild them. It will take some time and trouble though and you will need a new tub seal for the washer in any event. So unless you know how to work on them, probably not a good idea. The dryer will need going through too and some new parts. Not for the faint of heart. I have rebuilt a few of these washers and dryers. It's no walk in the park. That's why I quit using the ones I had. They are pretty to look at though!

I also have been watching just to see how long they sit and for how much they sell.  I figured all the people watching them were members!
