This is probably a good, large tub machine for any greater Bay Area members who are in the market.

What is up with the apparent supply hose connected to the vent stack?  Maybe it's a standpipe?   It looks too small to be a drain hose, though.

yeah, that's a puzzling one Ralph.....

I was going to say a gas line for the dryer, but the main line looks to be PVC.....

too small for a drain line, and looks to run behind the dryer.....

if it was in a basement, I would say a condensate pump line......

as with "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a TootsiePop?"...the world will never know!

A sump pump drain hose?

I'm not at all familiar with that area's water table, so just a guess.

Yeah, I'm going to guess that the Cupertino home where this machine is located doesn't have a basement.

I'm betting the seller can't explain what it is either.

If water use wasn't an issue, I'd consider this for a patio machine, but for now I'll keep watching for an Easy Spindrier.

My water softener uses the same size discharge hose into a standpipe.

then maybe it

is a vent hose from a toilet? I've seen stranger things done when someone did not want to break up a slab to run a vent to a soil stack.
My basement toilet uses the shower drain as a vent. Not a problem as long as heavy rains don't raise the water level in the sewer lines, and all the #2 washes out to the street. Otherwise, some odor lingers unless you run the shower.
The toilet is connected to the soil stack, it's just that the shower drain is on the same line. Yes, it's all one out to the street. No separate grey water and sewage lines.

Mike, I've never heard of separate gray water & sewerage lines running out to a street sewer that's connected to a public sewer system. The only time I've seen this is when someone is on a septic system. Separate connections to a public sewer would require two or more sewer taps, and those are expensive, and may incur extra monthly fees.
