never knew

that french door fridges were around during the days of harvest gold.  Learned something knew today.  Thanks!

Very stylish handles.  That Frigidaire range is beautiful.

Whirlpool French Door...

This makes THREE of these I've seen in the last 2 months. Seems like they must stay with their 1st owners a very long time before coming up on the used mkt--a good sign! French door units have been around since at least 1964, if not a few years before. These whirlpools date to late 70s-early 80s--nice units. I think Harvest Gold was available still circa 1983/4 if not a bit later.

My friend Glenna D. had a Sears Coldspot French door refrigerator that was purchased in late '66 or early '67. I can't verify it as my catalogs are at storage, but I think it was available in Turquoise in addition to White and Coppertone.

I've always believed, the best way to shop for retro appliances is to peruse the nursing homes in your area, stop in and visit with the residents, and just ask them- "Bessy how are you doing today...... really.   So I'll bet you have a beautiful kitchen and laundry at your home, don't you...... "  and just see where the conversation takes you.

OR

become a hearse chaser.  Whip out the obituary section from your news paper (like they print those anymore), and do a little research.  Find out where they lived, .... estate holder..... yahda, yahda.... If they plan to gut the house, that kind of thing.

Seriously, I wonder how many people do that.

Madea has an avocado

one in one of the movies, but the freezer is a top mount above the double door fridge. I think it says Coldspot on it.
Lots of retro things in her house, like the broken long console TV set, and a 19 inch portable on top. Then there's her 1970 Cadillac, with damask brocade upholstery.
