This is an unusual one, although it looks in good condition I think it must be very old - pre art deco - as apparently there is no provision for earthing (grounding) it. A display item rather than a daily driver I think

Something unusual in the UK, I wonder if our American friends can provide any information, its not a brand I have ever seen mentioned before. It too me a few minutes to realise that the grill pan was sitting on top of the unit. 110V of course

About 1983/84, I bought a Philips top mount fridge freezer then with similar styling. I am surprised those baskets have lasted so well. Normally you get a basket at the bottom not a freezing compartment

Hi Alistair,
the drawer is what the new / current line of Hotpoints use and have used for a few years now since the introduction of the WMD/WMF/WML line of machines. I do like how they kept it, but its not my favourite drawer design...looong Servis trays are my favourite! Haha Anyway, decent Hotpoints. The early Liberator dryer is back, same price... Hotpoint 9534. Intact side and lid strips but has the usual chunk out the handle. Notice how the dial isn't set to a cycle or a O position...but part way between 1 & 2.

That detergent drawer was introduced on a TOL Ariston Margherita IIRC. I once had a brochure, but can't find it at the moment.
The compartment at the bottom of the Philips freezer was for freezing unfrozen things. The switch is probably for something like a superfreeze setting. At the bottom and without the drawer things freeze the fastest. I remember more freezers had such a compartment. |

Apparently used to belong to Richard Branson. I thought members might like to have a look at it although personally I find it a bit over powering - at least as a kitchen - although there are some nice elements to it.

And this is what the previous item morphed (pardon the pun) into. This is not 1960s but early 1970s and the re-style was done by Kenneth Grange, the man behind the style of Kenwood Applinaces

Another Kenneth Grange design from the late 1960s - a complete re-design, rather like a small fan heater. Hoover produced its one version of this design although the Ronson is much more streamlind - minimalist even. This was also available in baby blue as well

I can remember meeting my mother at the hair dressing salon she used back in the 1960s and these monsters were the sort of dryers they used. At that salon the clients sat at the same basin throughout their visit, these dryers were wheeled over when required. I remember my mother commenting about how she preferred this system to the more modern (and more efficient) way of moving from basin, to styling area, to dryers.

With fold down grill, the right hand "oven" is not an oven at all, just a warming compartment. Early - mid 1960s

It dont get much more BOL than this! I suspect this is an early 1960s cooker, but the design goes way back to the 1940s as a means of producing articles using as little metal as possible. I have seen pictures of electric cookers of similar design

the New World has sealed burners? Way ahead of the Yank's there. What are the things out the sides that look like the gas line input? The Cowan Parkinson must have been council block flat builders grade? |

Builders Grade
I presume it is the cooker in reply 27 you are thinking about and you are headed back to Ronan Point but you are barking up the wrong tree. Firstly, the explosion at Ronan Point was most likely started by a gas leak and not the cooker in the flat- the lady who lit the match that caused the explosion took the cooker to her new home. Secondly, there was no such thing as builders grade in the UK back then as it was EXTREMELY rare for builders to include appliances in a new home. Actually council flats generally had quite well laid out kitchens as they were standards set for public housing - my first home of my own in 1977 was a council flat built 8-10 years before and my brother moved into a brand new council house in 1974. Both had quite reasonable counter and cupboard space with ample room for cooker (remember the standard back the was 21 inches), fridge (or even 50/50 fridge freezer) and a twin tub washer. But no appliances were supplied with either kitchen. |

In the early 1970s the Baby Belling got a complete revamp, in the process becoming a completely functioning mini cooker. Apart from moving to solid plates in the last few years it has hardly changed since that time. It can operate of one 13Amp socket - 2 plates, smaller plate & oven, smaller plate & grill

That Osterizer blender might be worth getting. Depends on the wattage (IIRC they vary in the range between 300 Watts and 1100 Watts or so) and the state it is in.
Solis still sells platewarmers in blanket form. www.solis.com/com_en/cons... |

Hi Al,
Crumbs Cannon Cordon Bleu - Classique double cooker took me back a bit...I remember my mum buying one of these at the ideal home exhibition around 1989/90 - it was really expensive (over £1100) and back then that was a lot, she was kind of wondering what kind of response she was going to get from my dad when we returned home...lol Cheers Keith |

Crikey, my parents had the whole Russell Hobbs poppy set, given as wedding gifts. The toaster was kind of unusual from what I remember, in that the toast tilted out to the side when done, rather than popping up.
All thrown out a few years ago, unused. Whenever I think about that I could kick myself for not snagging the set while I had the chance. |

European spinner dryer, or schloidurer. It does look to also have a heater. The water drains out the bottom spout. |

Does indeed have a heater its to enable things to dry quicker when removed, having used one of these beasts a long time ago they spin great but the heater just set any creases that would have been in the clothes in the drum as you had to place everything around that centre post as that was what drew the heat through the laundry it was one of those ideas that seemed ok on paper but in reality was a bit of a let down !

Thank you Keith for sharing you memory of you mother having one of these. Do you remember if she liked it? Was it a good cooker? You are certainly correct in that it was top of the range for its time, this would have been competing against Moffats and the like. For a long time this model was the only "range" cooker you could buy.
Anyway, here is another CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

I think these tops are designed to more likely give an impression of 2 1/2" - 3" thick although of course its just an impression, they would be in truth more like 3/4". You did see tiled tops here in the 1960s and 1970s although I have no recollection of seeming them with the bullnose fronts as you describe (I have seen them in the US) - normally just a wood trim

Early 1970s Hotpoint fridge freezer. Well after sitting for 40 odd years next to a cooker its going to be pretty well knackered, not to mention the condition of the side next to the cooker. Maybe they have lived off salad since the mid 1970s. Curiously enough its sat next to a later version of the Tricity Marquis ...

Two different types of self assembly units from around 1974/75 combined with an "instant" multipoint gas water heater - all unused. This type of gas water heater is now extinct due to the widespread use of "combi" boilers (which power radiators and supply hot water) and a wide variety of electrical models, most used for showers.
Note the units are still to the old imperial module of 21/42" The kitchen units are very unusual 40+ years on from when they were sold. Its a shame about the price ...... CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK on eBay |

Ah yes, Keller kitchens, after their merge with Bruynzeel kitchens they will be one of the biggest manufacturers on the market here. The Bruynzeel and Keller brands will stay separate brands on the market, but both brands will use one factory. Both operate on the market for kitchens for rental units.

Mid 1970s. Expensive for a 40 year old cooker and it looks like someone had been at the "stay clean" linings with the Oven Pride - looks like they are ruined

has that 70's Tappan Gallery warming shelf look again. Kevin, the member here who also has Cavalcade of food on youtube, should buy the GEC Cavalcade cooker for his summer cottage. |
