So was perusing the local classified ads and happened upon an ad for an old washer for sale. Upon closer inspection it appeared to be a BD! I've been looking for a donor for literally years as the inner tub in my 1966 Inglis is pretty worn out. BDs just never show up around here anymore.

I did some research which put it around 1977-78 - just the timeframe the long post was replaced by the short post in the US. Inglis typically didn't implement changes concurrently with the US, they were usually about 3-5 years behind so I thought I could be in luck!

GO53100

So I picked it up tonight and my suspicions were correct - it is a 1977. To my delight, luck has finally turned around as this is in fact a long centerpost machine :) On top of that it's a suds saver too!

So now the dilemma - I do need a 2nd washer for a rental suite. Before I bought this I thought that if it was functional and decent, I would use it for that as I could live with the tub in the 66 if need be for the time being.

The seller indicated the machine worked and when I had it on its side during transport I did some inspecting. Pulleys all turned freely, no signs of leakage or serious rust and all looked to be in decent shape. The cabinet is a bit banged up and would needs some serious cleaning but it could clean up OK.

I plugged the machine in and put it into suds to see it agitate and spin to test things out. It worked but it's really loud - could be bearings or maybe the motor I'm guessing.

So I decided to check the outer tub to see if the decision could be made for me...

Upon first inspection, it didn't actually look too bad.

Looking a little closer and doing a bit of scraping is giving me 2nd thoughts....

I'm not experienced enough to spot whats a go and what isn't. Chunks seem to be coming off of the bottom of the centerpost and the sump area doesn't look that great either. The rest of it looks OK to me though....

I need another project like I need a hole in my head but if I had to do a bearing job I guess I could live with that. But I'm not up for doing any significant tub repairs so I'm looking for opinions on the state of the centerpost from the experts....

Its not a dream machine for me or anything and I would be happy with just salvaging parts. But it also seems a bit of a waste if there is some potential for a new lease on life....

Let me know what you think...
