You got a great machine. My 1984 511 is older than yours but the same design. One repair in this time since new. Mine has the Fabric-Matic delicate cycle but still a one speed like yours. You can get many more years of service out of that machine.

Will get the interior money shot once this load of clothes I have in her is done. Surprisingly the lint filter was not really nasty at all.....175 bucks with a 3 year warranty on her. Im not complaining one bit !!!

... with a 3 year warranty on her.
Interesting.  How'd that come about?

How this appliance store does that with all their customers. They also give you A3 day trial. After you buy the machine and if you don't like it then replace it with one of their machines that is similar to it. They also do a 30 day service plan where they will come out at no charge to fix the machine for you. They like their customers to be satisfied so they try their best to give them the best possible deals in the best possible

Maytag I bought in 1988. I liked the push button water level selector just fine.

I found a matched set of those on a trade in pile probably 18 years ago. They were our daily drivers for a LOT of years. Never a problem.

Nice Used Maytag Washer

combo52's profile picture

Somewhere I missed the explanation about the warranty, is it three years or 30 days and what does it actually cover ?

Post# 888686 , Reply# 9   7/8/2016 at 23:08 (2,819 days old) by vintagekenmore (Spokane, Washington)

3 year warranty on all parts. 30 day in home service with no service fee. 90 days on labor. Not a bad deal I hope. So what year was mine made based on the Serial number

Here are the money shots. Sorry for the bad lighting. Two cycles. Nice deep tub. And you can see how clean the lint filter is. They did a good job on it.

Warranty On a Rebuilt-Used Appliance

combo52's profile picture

I have seen worse, but you really only have any coverage for 30 days, their in-home-service-call may be 1/2 the price of the machine during the 90 day period and free used parts are not worth much unless there is a reasonable hourly repair rate that they will hold to, if they use a flat-rate book replacing a motor can get very costly even though on a used washer it only takes 15 minutes..

We have sold a few thousand RB-Used appliances over the last 40+ years and when people ask me whether they should ever consider buying a RB-UA from a company I usually suggest they skip it unless the company will give at least a one year warranty that covers every thing to keep the machine running properly for at least one year.

Our goal when selling a RB-UA is to try to match the end user with an appliance that should last them 5-20 years with only minimal service during that time and to always be available with quality cost effective in home service.

Not the greatest but not the worst then. But Im not abusive on my appliances so as long as I take care of this baby, she'll take me. Funny thing was that I had actually looked at one of the newer Maytag machines they had (think Whirlcool). And the sales associate and even the tech steered me towards this one. His exact words were "this is when Maytag built them to last. You want something that will last you a LONG time." My sister bought a machine just like this 6 years ago at an estate auction and only wound up paying 6 bucks for it. (She lives in a little country town)She has had ZERO problems with it.

Congratulations on your purchase of a REAL washing machine! According to the serial number your machine was manufactured January 1986. Most parts are still available for these, the issue is usually finding a technician who is experienced enough and willing to repair. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the great comments guys. So far this baby has powered through EVERYTHING Ive thrown at it, including a fairly bulky bedspread that I would have to constantly reshift during spin in my Kenmore, her tub never even so much as wobbled an inch, she spun smoothly...and everything seems so much CLEANER that has come out of her. Not to jinx myself, but I hope the dryer dies soon so I can get a mate for this gem!! Note to designers....THIS IS THE WAY YOU BUILD THEM.

nice machine you got there.....you will get years of dependable service out of it....

most times you have to under load one of these, but don't let that discourage you....it will still handle a decent load in a minimal amount of time....

I say grab the matching dryer now, and then sell your current one to offset the price a bit, versus having to chuck out the full bill all at once....

And I was fairly light in loading it.....I dont know why I didnt get one of these sooner.....everything just honestly came out great!!

I just washed my winter Carhart coat in my 511, worked fine and never went off balance. What more could you ask for. Hung it on the shower rod. Unfortunately, we have been socked in with clouds and rain where Boston down is in heat. Not fair, need sun and warmer temps here for a change.

Think I'm going to take Yogi's advice and see if they might have a DE412 that might be ready soon. I can only imagine what that dryer can handle. So a question. Besides not overloading her, what general maintenance practices should,I follow. I want this baby to last a good many more years. She has 30 under her belt and I want to give her as many more as I can

Making a W&D Last As Long As Possable

combo52's profile picture

The two main things that determine the life of a W&D are time and the amount of loads that the machine is asked to do.

Probably the 2nd most important things are keeping the machine clean [ not pouring bleach, detergent all over the washer, powered detergent should be measured and dumped in not sprinkled ] and keeping the machine in an environment that is not too humid.

Probably 3rd is not excessively overloading the washer, but keep in mind that under loading a washer does far more harm to the overall life  of any W&D. The timer, water pump, inlet valve, pump belt, motor, suspension system and other controls to name just some important parts that will wear out eventually do not care if you put the full load that the washer was designed to wash, and all these items are only going to work just so many times before they fail.

You have an EXCELLENT washing machine that should last you a very long time. Regardless of what some might say, it will probably last you as long if not longer than a new washer of ANY brand including the sacred SQ.

Thanks combo. And since this machine doesn't have a bleach dispenser, I will have to make sure to add the bleach after the tub gets a good fill on it and then add my clothes. And I have made sure to wipe it off and leave the lid open so the tub can air dry
