The dishwasher appears to be in excellent shape. Lots more photos posted with the ad (on SF Bay Area CL).

I wonder if they removed the light bulb from the oven during the Enron energy crisis to save energy. I hope those who engineered the Enron crisis die in prison. |

That Princess is as pristine as a Princess can get. Even the beautiful and rare blue vent grille seems to be in perfect condition. When I saw the ad I was impressed by the kitchen as a whole, but being a petulant child my first thought was, "*&# ^&*#!!! Why couldn't that have been an Empress!!!!" I would have bought the whole damn kitchen.

Allen, yes, I'd say that any custom home in Los Altos from this period would be a sprawling rancher!
My guess is that someone with roots in the third world wants to transform things into a tasteless trophy kitchen full of gold and marble, and transfer the pink to the exterior paint scheme. Truly a shame considering how pristine this original 1957 time capsule is.
I'm betting it went for closer to $3M, even though it's in the Los Altos flatlands. The heirs likely made a killing because the mortgage was probably burned decades ago.
The fridge isn't frost free, but it would still be tempting to me if the hinges were on the right. |

Wish my wife would accept electric cooking appliances, and I had a place to store everything, including those cabinets, for 2 years or so! |

I have a friend who owns single-story four-plex of +/- 1960 vintage and lives in the large manager's unit in the rear. He has similar tile counter tops to that pictured above, and it's original.
I thought maybe the counter tops had been re-done too, but when I saw that tile, I knew they had to be original. Besides, if the owners took such good care of their appliances and cabinetry, the surely didn't need new counter tops after only a few years.
Quite a tasteful look for a custom 1957 suburban home in an upscale area. My guess is that the original owners were classy, old money, country club/Junior League types. |
