Mike - great Hoover! Reminds me of the A3060 my nana had in terms of noises. Remidns me that we still have to meet up for a Brit wash-in this summer!

All the best,

Jon

OMG

Welcome my son..... Welcome.... to the machine......

That sounds like it could be part of a Pink Floyd album. What an awesome machine! Must be fun to watch it wash.

*WOW*
That is amazing.

What is the approximate age of this piece of art?

1976 if I believe rightly, Steve!

AWESOME video Mike, what a great machine!! Those clunks and clicks are amazing to listen to, and the spin couldn't sound more like a jet engine taking off! Must be fun to play with!

What years were the square-door Keymatics produced?

Hoover

That was fun to watch.

Can I assume when you pushed the button, some of the clicking was the timer moving into cycle.

What are the other clicks, as the machine is functioning.

It was surprising to hear the spin, which is reminiscent of a blender or an old Dormeyer mixer.

there is one word for the action and sounds of this washer: Outrageous! sounds like some 1950s sci-fi robot! or something Star-Trek.

Keyplate question--

The keyplates from the first (?) Keymatic work in this machine? The slanted front machine with the impeller on the back wall.....that one?

Fascinating machines.

Thanks for sharing yours, Mike.

Post# 133579 , Reply# 11   6/6/2006 at 00:49 (6,506 days old) by brettsomers ()

i believe those DO use a universal motor. they sell the brushes for them on ebay.

Austin - I know they still had a Keymatic version when my mum got her A3110 in 1982 (all the models shared the installation instructions and the Keymatic is one of them), but if I'm right in remembering the Keymatics were produced right up until the mid 1980's when the Electron series was introduced.

That Hoover actually sounds very similar to my 1980's AEG spinning too... I knew I recognised the AEG motor sound from somewhere!

I vote that you post an extra video or two, and perhaps one of the A3060 too :-P.

We had one of these machines when I was a kid. Certainly grabbed my attention when I was younger :) We also had the matching Hoover Tumble Dryer De Lux. Similar design with a large ticking clockwork timer.

Really a to-die-for machine!!!!

I feel mysefl in tears when I find a such beatyful machine!
Indeed, it remeber me all those old washer I saw in my past...

Well, you have to know that when I was I child I used to "ask for the toilet" (here toilet is togheter with bathroom, where usually wahser take place)many times more than usual!!! So my parents was worried about me! They thought it was a problem of incontinence LOL!

BUT in truth, I needed toilet less thatn the half of the times I asked for it, it was instead to looking for washers and watch at them!
This happend generally and very often when they brought me to visit someone (friends' home, relatives' home, ecc).

When my mom, very worried asked me if I had any problem behaving like that, I easly answerd her that I did so ONLY to watch at washers... You can't imagine how they burst out laughing... At the end it was olny "toy" for me...

Now I can't do so more...but you can't believe how I would like to do it again...

What a beautiful washer. I really love that shiny door! The sounds are nice too, sort of like older Mieles, especially the ticking timer and the start of the spin.

Lawrence, the older keyplates don't work in this Keymatic, the older keyplates were thicker.

BTW Mike, the video of the Servis Superheat is great too. It looks like it has a very wide drum.

Definitely Louis

That starting into spin, sounds exactly like my old Miele, on mine its 1100RPM, but its a much lower sound than the new one which is high pitched.

Spin Speed

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hi all

That spin is something else isnt it!!!sound like a jet yet its only 800rpm,

The first & second Keymatic models, like mine & Louis, use the smaller fatter keyplates all the later models use the slimmer units which look the same BUT later keys for the same programmes, say spin or pre-wash, have different length grooves, this model need the tub seal replacing before a full wash, thats the next job, just found the matching dryer , can you believe it has a white door, so I`ve got a spare chrome one to place on and make a matched set...

Enjoy, I`ll do some more vids when I get back from Cyprus, off tomorrow for a week, will keep eyes peeled for an old Laundramat!!!

Cheers, Mike

Thanks for posting these, Mike, I love these Keymatics! You had mentioned the clicking the machine does with the keys but I had no idea it sounds THAT cool!
