Have seen a few of these on CL and elsewhere lately.
Nice looking unit and while tempted, only just. Parts are probably difficult to locate and sort of like the idea of Maytag's self adjusting wringer rollers versus those with a manual setting. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Working-Blacksto... |

That agitator is the famous Blackstone Hydractor. John and Jeff had one, might still. It must have set up some wicked currents judging by the way the top of the tub curves over. |

Going by adverts for their wringers in particular the above model seemed really to be going after Maytag's lunch. That is they put lots of thought and R&D into the product.
Tub is double walled, pump is strong, they lowered the distance between wringer and tub to lessen chances of accidents and other issues. The bullet shape of the tub is designed to keep water from splashing out... That Hydractor was supposed to provide three types of washing action; rubbing, flexing and suction. How gentle it was cannot say but it is interesting that Blackstone changed agitator design for later model wringers. Blackstone wringer washers pop up often enough. One was on CL in the Detroit area just last month. Was seriously considering, but aside from the worry about shipping costs and paying (seller was an older person and was doing things by "cash" only), was worry about spare parts. www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T... If the thing goes for opening bid shipping might not be *that* bad. A listing on U-ship might produce someone willing to do the job for under $200. Ok, that isn't small beer, but does pass for "cheap" these days when it comes to moving large appliances. Perhaps a member traveling that way could be tempted..... |
