Back by popular demand, but be warned we are starting in the Bonkers (as in crazy prices) department

1950s English Electric

vacbear58's profile picture
Sadly someone has made an offer which the buyer could not refuse but I though I would include it anyway as its unusual to see one of these English Electric cookers in such good condition. Middlish 1950s - its just a regular storage cupboard underneath. It was listed at £150

Belling

vacbear58's profile picture
To help readers get over their disappointment about missing out on the EE there is this Belling which is probably about the same age. And WHAT a bargain price!

It is unusual to see auto/manual controlled by a toggle switch. It also seems like their is no type of heat control from the upper warming cabinet, the one under the hob has a grill/broiler under the rectangular plate

Tricity Oven

vacbear58's profile picture
Around 1973 -1976 - its fairly unusual to see the single oven version of this cooker as the double seems to have been a great deal more popular. A bit pricy

A little newer than the two Tricity ovens just listed. It drops down when the lid is closed so that it is (almost) flush with the worktop

The English Electric

eye level oven is most attractive, and I don't think any US maker offered one yet in the 50's other than built in.

Moffat Gas Oven

vacbear58's profile picture
And it appears there is no grill/broiler in it. Moffat was part of the same group as Tricity and you can see some resemblance in the styling cues I think

Connaon Foldway Grill

vacbear58's profile picture
Back to the bonkers department I am afraid. This is one reason why certain gas ovens were not supplied with grills because you could buy them separately although it would work out a very expensive combination. This cannon model would be from the late 1970s and would be contemporary with the Moffat oven

Poggenpohl Kitchen

vacbear58's profile picture
This 1970s TOL kitchen would certainly have been something in its day although it has been quite well updated in around the last 10 years of so. But my main reason for posting it is the Neff twin oven and extractor which again was the top of the line. Two full size, fully featured ovens with retractable controls and handles with the controls in the middle, I would love to have one of these some day

I have not ever

seen a Poggenphol kitchen I didn't love, but am not a fan of DuPont Corian solid surface counter tops. That kitchen would be so sharp with Silestone quartz or granite and an undermounted stainless steel Blanco or composite granite sink.
Mine is a Franke, made in the UK. It's very large and deep.

not far off the price of a brand new kitchen albeit basic but I would rather have a new one than a second hand for the money.

Yes, a new kitchen

is nice, and a lot of work, unless your budget is unlimited.
We did ours in 2011. I did the labor, except the counters. Upgraded to all 1/4 inch thickness wood in solid cherry with russette glaze.
Martha Stewart Lilly Pond collection. Craftsman/Shaker style with one 36 inch upper cabinet with leaded glass doors. Three large drawers below. A total sixteen by twelve feet foot print.
One meter is 39.5 inches roughly. 12 inches per foot. I realize The US is still on the decimal system.
Topped with Cosentino Silestone quartz (from Spain?) in a granite like mountain stone color. Travertine back splash. Crown moldings above and triple bead trim. Task lighting is LED, as are ceiling pot and mini track fixture. No soffits above the cabinets. I tore them out. It opened up the room. I added a center island at a 45 degree angle to the L shaped lay out. It can move.
My pantry is recessed over the basement stair well, so we left it there. I built new shelves stained to match the kitchen cabinets and put a matching double door on it mounted in a custom frame. I lined the shelves with clear lexan plastic to make cleaning easy. I used medical device cabinet plastic bins for organizers. (They would have been thrown out) Next best thing to a slide out pantry on rollers.
Coffee maker/bar to it's left. A 35 inch wide side by side refrigerator left of that. Stainless appliances.
Many European kitchens are not afforded this much space in many residences, especially in Monaco, believe it or not. How can anyone cook with one or two hobs, a tiny sink, counter top, and little storage? So what is a world class kitchen today? Form follows function I suppose.
Even the old Frankfurt kitchens without refrigerators are larger than some.
