Has anyone had any recent experiences with a HEPA filtering device?

I bought a Honeywell HEPA device (resembles a circular floor fan) for my wife in 2005. It's been a good one but has seen better days. It cost $180.00. Honeywell doesn't make that model anymore.

My wife has done some research and tells me that good replacements are $600 to $1,000. This seems high, but I want her to have a good one. She thinks highly of this club, and we'd appreciate any advice offered.

If you use ebay this is offerd. I use one every night. And wouldn't be with out it.
it is new and shipping is included... a deal good deal as shipping would be rather expensive.

I used to have a Honeywell.

It lasted many years. I've also had a furnace mounted electronic air cleaner. It wore out, then when we replaced our furance, we put a large media filter inside it's plenum. It works great. I vacuum it once between each 6 month change. $25 each. I use merv 10, but you can get a merv 8, or a merv 12, dpending on your allergic needs.

Stay away from DeLonghi. I had one aircleaner and two dehumidifiers from them. None of them lasted very long.

I replaced the DeLonghi with a Steba LR8. It doesn't work with Hepa filters but with magnetism. Doesn't work as well, but you don't have to replace the filters, just rinse the metal filter noww and then. Unfortunately it developed a flaw, sometimes it pops rather loudly, so I can't use it anymore when I sleep.

Sad to hear

that about DeLonghi. They made or (sold) some very good products. Like their portable air conditioners on wheels.
I never see any Bravetti anymore.

Almost forgot that I had one of those portable airconditioners too for a very short while. I bought a floor model, in the end I returned it because the accessories never were delivered. It was good to try one out though, after using one I found them way too big for the capacity they had.

They're made by Kaz now but still have the Honeywell name on them.
