Have a chance to possibly get this set free,.. Washer works, but it leaks a little "sometimes"... what does that mean

Also the dryer makes some noise but works

what "sometimes" means is pretty vague. It could be something really simple or something more complex.

If you can find out where the water is coming from than someone here with knowledge on that machine would be able to give you better advice.

I had that same washer

and it did that. Watch it fill with water, and see if it leaks while filling up. Mine did, but not afterwards during the wash, nor rinse cycle. It was the fill hose where it clamped to the tub fill orfice. Easy repair. I cut the cracked end off the hose, and re clamped it.
If it leaks during the entire cycle, it may be the tub seal. If it leaks not until pump out, it may be the drain hose, or pump.

Whatever leaks, leaks. Whatever noise the dryer makes, it makes. Then Fix it. Grab these very cool machines especially if they are free. Most parts are available for the "Dependable Care" real Maytag's!
