perfect Jimmy, "self-cleaning" indeed ............ does your Norge oscillate as fast ? I am sure it washes just as well. Thanks for your comment :) |

Greg, boy does this bring back memories of a 10.5 y/o boy. The agitation, the small walls of water bouncing back & forth as the top of the agitator fins bats those waalls back & forth and the little bit splashing up to the ring just above on the agitator. I have to admit, our sequence was a bit different. It would drain, a totally neutral drain, then about 20 seconds before the next timer increment move, it would kick into spin and ramp right on up through the "whatever govenor type thing" used as the plateau for the slow spin and continue up to fast spin then the clutch would disengage and it would start coastin and then the spray would come on. As ours got older, the coasting took fewer and fweer seconds--as did the comparable Moneky Wards across the street. And pretty abysmal as a perm press cool down intent with the slow speed spin. did the filter pan survive? Thanks for the memories. Would you mind panning the control panel again so Ican see all the detail? Bob

same drain/extract/spin sequence on this machine as you describe, just not well seen in the vid. |

Ys sirree Greg, that is indeed a 1964. That was a model down a notch or two from our TOL. The gentle speed cycle is where our soak cycle and the suds return on the timer were. And thank you for clearing up the sequence. It just threw me that it seemed to take forever to get up to speed where the spin would kick into normal. Hang on to that washer Greg, it's very rare. BTW, there was a silver looking thing that went inside the timer knob, but didn't have hte red "indicator" similar to the smaller temp & level knobs.

Here is the fill and start to the rinse agitation, again, I truly love the turnover and vigorous action of this machine. Plus Norge has all the great clunks, bangs and sounds. :) CLICK HERE TO GO TO gregm's LINK |

Love those vids, Greg. And some of us with Westinghouse-design top-loaders feel your pain about the lint filter. My Frigidaire faux 1-18 loved to present me with the lint filter floating in the rinse water with astonishing regularity... *sigh* It was invariably clean at the end of it all, though... :-) |

#1. Is this a Fedder's Norge? #2. Is this one of the machines that mocked the Montgomery Ward? |

We are the Borg-Warner, filter resistance is futile. |

The M W mocked the Norge as in the way that Kenmore mocked Whirlpool. |

Greg, I honestly thought about permanently cement glueing our filter to the docking bay when our saber-tooth lock finally started wearing down with the resulting lint filter throw out during spin syndrome. For quite a while, it wobbled during spins and continued to wear that "tooth" down. I really did love that washer. My only beef was the cycle buttons pretty much were useful for only 3 settings without button manipulation. The whites cycle, the noncolorfast button, and delicates. W'nW/durable press button used hot water wash rather than warm, so I'd have to fill on warm and switch back to w'n'w button just before agitation started, which my mother thought was bad for the machine and watched me like a hawk NOT to do that. It would have been perfect if it had had lady kenmore button programming. The rinsing was awesome and 15 lbs. was by far the largeset capacity in 1964, everything else was 14 lbs. at best, if not 12. My choice I wanted dad to bring home was the one right below with the felixble speed and water temp combos. But, it didn't have timed dispensers, only on the dispenseomat and mom really awnted that modern touch after the 1955 GE was sent packing. And its cleaning was hell on wheels so to speak. We'd had the washer for about a year when my mom started bringing home linens of all sorts she found in my grandparent's house after my grandmother's death. And I got towash all of 'em. Talk about yellow water from all those years of sitting and turning yellow. And you're right, I miss all that clanking, banging, thunking noises make throughout the cycle. And when it would start the spin and, almost like a unimatic, start a 0 rpms, always knew when it started spinning, especially in the bathroom, cuz the lights dimmed lol. I would have also preferrred the model right below what we got for the dryer. The tol had heat & air fluff on the 4 cycle dial--timed, auto regular, auto w'n'w, and air fluff. The next model down had actual 4 temp buttons lol. I actually shrunk a couple of brand new man-made fiber shell blouses my mom bought in 1966 even with setting it on auto w'n'w. Mom was NOT pleased. But ohh, such a sexy laundry room I had with the room light turned off and the two full-panel fluorescent lights turned on both machines. I still think of it as very romantic even to this day lol.

OK - I can't seem to get the videos to download. Do you do this in the usual way? You know, "Save As", etc... or do I need other capabilities? Dying to see those videos...... Thanks Anthony |

Thanks Greg for these videos. Just love how the tub spins at the beginning of the wash/rinse and locks into place...too cool. My mother's old Fedders Norge did the same. |
