This style GE motor did not come out till about 1970,  [ this motor is late 70s but before 1980 ]and from the condition of this one its worth about $1.73, scrap valve.

Yes indeed...

Much later than 1959.

That is a GE made motor, or it sure looks like one, but I'd say early 70s or after, definitely not 1959. I believe most if not all new production WP belt-drives ending the 1960s still had round, serviceable motors, but I may be off a year or two.

Motor looks a bit unusual to me, as most I have seen of these GEs in that pale gray color (you have to look beyond the rust to see it) did not have the capacitor start configuration. Those that did in the early 80s were a more gray/brown color.

This could easily have been a replacement part bought from a parts supplier for a 1959 washer, thus its configuration may have been different from what was going out as OEM parts in new production.

Either way, the square Emerson motors of the later 1970s are what I chose to use when a replacement is needed unless I want a 60s round motor for "period correctness".

I started a reply on this but stepped away to take a phone call ... posted my draft when I finished only to see John had voiced much the same (and with a lot fewer words!) minutes earlier. Sorry for the dupe info!
