Hi All! I just bought this sucker off of Craig's List. When I looked at it at the guy's house it worked. Now that it's home, it doesn't. Any trouble-shooting ideas? Thanks to Todd for your e-mail. Will you please e-mail back?

You need to be more specific. What doesn't work? What's the model No. etc

Rickshawpete, sorry I'm not too mechanical, but I'm curious: did you get this off Craigslist, near the Grove area? Toploader with the blue washarm? I saw that one! Looks like a great machine, I'm sure someone will be able to hook you up once you have more details.

The Grove Indeed!

Hey, I did get this from the guy by the Grove! Did you take a look at it? I will get back to you all on specifics so that you can help out with fixing ideas. Todd had a suggestion that I haven't tried out yet, but will today. That's so funny that you saw it, Scott! Out of curiosity, are you a collector? Why didn't you buy it? FixerMan, I will deinitely be back here with more details!

the usual culprit

KitchenAid toploaders were notorious for having a broken wire in the lid to the safety switch, thus killing all power to the machine. Be sure to REPLACE the wire and NOT patch it/splice it inside the lid. it's usually one of the 2 wires, but I'd replace both. I have a service manual if you need more info.

Hey Steve, thanks for the input. I'm not a fixer of things (sadly, usually a breaker of things...) If I can't get it to work, do you know anyone who works on these things in Los Angeles? Is it possible that when I bought from the guy it worked (at his house), but that the wire broke after I got it home?

Perhaps the wire came loose in transit?

LOL Pete, I sorta thought about it, but maybe I had a premonition. Very cool machine though. Still, I hope (and would have to assume) that it will be something simple if it tested ok at his house (and he raved in his ad about how well it worked, which I don't doubt being a KA). Keep us posted!

Closer to the Culprit!

Hi All! I'm very excited because I seemed to have isolated the problem. When I push in the lever on the lid with my finger, the unit works. The problem is that the lever isn't being "told" that the machine is closed because the two parts aren't sitting flush together. The only way I can "tell" the machine that it's closed is when I push the lever with my finger and the machine is actually open! Still, I'm thrilled to have made any progress at all. If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this problem, I'd be grateful!
