Do all basements in Seattle flood? Don't know. Never been there. I know it rains often.

The washer (defunct) & dryer in the house I was renting were up on a plywood platform due to the basement being so damp all the time.

As for flooding, any basement can if the sewer backs up.

A common thing in many localities, some are bigger/taller than others.....I have seen ones close to 15 inches tall, and used for a bolt down Bendix.....

also seen platforms to raise the washer for high drainage situations....

also have seen, as its some new law, if located in a garage, usually a gas water heater is raised, but now washers and dryers must be raised as well...

just seems odd as you see a platform for the washer and dryer, yet the heater/water heater sit on the floor.....especially if its for flooding areas....

they've been listed for four days all ready. I'm really surprised that someone hasn't grabbed these beauties yet.

Too bad

it costs a fortune to ship cross country.
Example:
I wanted to buy matching dining room furniture for my 1986 Thomasville American country mostly solid oak bedroom suite. I found on E-bay in south Florida an entire set with a large china cabinet, table, six chairs and side board for $900.
The photos were close ups and it looked to be in fine condition.
I paid $2,000 for the bedroom suite with the triple dresser and tri-fold mirror, and armoire new back in'86. Then I calculated shipping costs from Florida, and it was more than double the selling price.

The cheapest way to ship is by freight. In order to do so, the items have to be fastened to a skid and the item delivered to a freight terminal. I had a crated monitor top unit shipped that way from Portland to St. Louis for $150.

Some years ago, I was more willing to drive to go fetch whatever. Since I am alone and not able to load stuff, I have learned that finding a shipper is usually the better choice. I would really like a monitor top cabinet in Fort Lee, NJ, but so far the shipping bid has been $600.

I hope someone saves these. From what I understand, Seattle is full of young wealthy people that don't value old things.

Did the seller do the crating or did you have to pay someone else to do it? Lucky if you can find a seller who is willing and able to crate something. Otherwise its the added expense and trouble of finding someone to do that. Many sellers want the item gone ASAP and aren't interested with a third party getting involved to do the crating.

well, at this point, all you can do it try.....

call several shipping companies, or ones like U-Ship, or Ucrate....and see what you come up with.....

a group shipment person would be a bit cheaper, but may take a few weeks until you receive your items, but if the price is right, who is to argue....

that is just too nice of a set, in great condition and a cheap price, to not inquire about them.....

Ken,

I shipped something crated to someone in Portland and they returned something to me in my crate.  You wouldn't need to crate a washer.  Just strap it to a skid with a couple ratchet straps.

You sometimes get lucky on Uship.  When I was wanting the Maytag combo shipped from San Francisco, the first person I thought was reasonable was $600.  That person flaked out so I relisted.  The next person quoted $300.  The key is finding someone going your way.  There's no way to predict that.

Throw up a listing on U-Ship, you never know...

First few hits are always high ball bidders, give it a bit and often more reasonable offers start to arrive. Better still when someone is out or going through where the item is located and heading your way. Could be someone doing a move with room on their truck looking to make something on the side.
