Is this any cause for alarm? I had let laundry get backed up and did 4 loads yesterday, and although everything worked as usual, when the door unlock sounded at the end, it was not followed by the usual 3 long beeps. I honestly don't care about the end of cycle signal, but is this an indication that something may be going? The machine is almost 12 yrs old.

If everything except beeping works fine, maybe just the chime has gone kaputt.Does it make other beeps and sounds except end signal(e.g. when it starts or when buttons are pressed)? On the picture i see water left in drum.Does it hold water when it ends, even though you don't select rinse hold?If so,maybe absense of end signal is an error indication,so maybe it's time for a new machine.

???

Why water in drum? Would make for some drippy washing.

The machine is just doing a Normal/Casual cycle.

that's a pic I took a long time ago showing how much water my machine used. I just included it because it's the only picture I have of the machine handy..

anyway - the beeps STILL work when you press a button that doesn't go with that cycle...it's just end of cycle signal doesn't beep.

There's only one transducer/speaker on the board to generate the beeps so it's (presumably) good if it works at all.  Have you tried changing the signal volume between high, low, and off?

Mark just have to ask.  Did you accidentally turn the option off and not realize it?

that was it - how stupid of me.

back when I first got the machine, I kept end of cycle sound on medium and haven't touched it since, so it's been so long I forgot you could even turn it on/off. The weird thing is, I'm the only one that uses the machine and I never turned it to off in the first place.
at least now I know nothing is going on the machine yet.

but you can't imagine how DUMB I feel from creating a post for something so simple as the signal being turned to off.

Don't sweat it, Mark. We've all been there one time or another. I was furious that the upper oven on my 2-year old range had stopped working. You guessed it: I had turned on the lower oven.

You did, however, rob me of the chance to chime in with, "See? Modern front-loaders are pieces of crap! Only 12 years old and the cycle signal stopped working!" LOL
