First off Id like to say congratulations to Debbie and her son. At age 4 I was collecting the neighborhood detergent bottles from the trash on my big wheel in 1978. I had to listen to everybody's washing machine run including neighbors and family. My mother didn't think anything was wrong. My father thought it was kind of weird. But that's how it starts. All of my dads sisters loved it because they never had to chase the rinse cycle they would always count on me to listen out for it and stay in the basement and pour in the final touch. Anyways my whirlpool double duty washer continued to leak out water I ended up taking it to the scrap yard there was no hope for it. I made up my mind the only belt driven washing machine that will ever ENTER this house again that is vintage will be a GE filter flow that is in good condition. Thank you all for your answers and support.

Too bad for the

Whirlpool. Someone could have replaced the outer tub with one that doesn't leak, or use the transmission, etc. to rebuild another.
