Hello Everyone ..
This is from SHORPY the text says:

Washington, D.C., 1936. "Dept. of Interior exhibit -- kitchen at all electric farm." An early manifestation of the government's push for rural electrification, three years after the Tennessee Valley Authority was created by act of Congress. Harris & Ewing Collection glass negative

The dishwasher has to be an early GE. No dry cycle on that on, as the proud owner has a dish towel handy for the silverware...LOL

Yes, and the New Stove blocks the opening of one cabinet!

The farmer's wife was more than willing to put up with the various limitations imposed by these appliances in trade for the work they saved her.

We were poised on the edge of a wonderful era and lost over fifty million lives in such a short time. Wow.

We lost material things to the war, too - automation and really well designed appliances were already on the drawing boards, ready to go when it all got shoved back for more than a decade.

I would hope . . .

. . . a farmers wife's shoes would have a bit of muck on them. At least they're not pumps! She reminds me of Harpo Marx.

Interesting to see the installation of the exhaust fan in the window, rather like a later window AC.

Nice inlaid linoleum when it was considered a bit of a luxury item.

I think the knobs on the dishwasher controlled/executed its functions.  It was semi-automatic I believe.

What an amazing picture. For some reason, it makes me feel terribly sorry for that woman, whoever she was. Thank you for posting this.

Assuming the pic was not staged...

- It might only be the cabinet door that's blocked. There might be no interior divider and access is through the door immediately to the right.

- I kind of get the "feeling sorry" thing. For me it's imagining what her life was like before the FAN, stove, and dishwasher. I'd imagine the fan made the kitchen a much more pleasant place to work.

Those shoes would also be modern; weren't saddle shoes just coming out around that time?
