is in the entertainment factor. I am lucky enough to have one in minty condition.
It is the most time I have ever spent tinkering with this type of Maytag.
My observations are; that the capacity is limited. The powerful Gyratator tends to get splashy if there are bulky items such as slacks or jeans in the machine. As that water goes over-board it lessens the amount of water left in the tub, etc. Smaller items can be a much larger load. Forget blankets, bed spreads, etc. Three Bath Towels are a FULL load! I think the Water-Level Switch in the lid is just a gimmick. Every load is a small!

Love the solinoid snapping the machine into the spin cycle.
The other fun thing, due to the way the lid-switch is by-passed on my machine-----is you can actually get an Over-Flow Rinse! You just partially lower the lid and the water starts running in. Most of the time it will do it if you open the lid during the Rinse fill and then close it. The water will run until the machine goes into the Final Spin (unless you fully open the lid)! Love it!

All in all it is a really fun machine. If you find one I can highly recommend it.

My aunt had the same model and it was loaded way more than full with clothes as to not "tax" the septic. She had that for at least 40 years with not a problem. Thats why I bought my Maytags in '84. Cost more than a Kenmore or GE, but they still work like new, and still here. Hers, you could not open the lid more than an inch and it stopped until you closed the lid. I fixed mine on day one to work with the lid open. That slam into spin is the same as hers and mine.

Since I couldn't tinker with someone else's lid switch, I didn't have a use for this variety of Maytag back in the day.
I do recall watching people stuff them with laundry. It wasn't until I got this machine that I realized stuffing it full did not necessarily provide good results! Lol! It's not quite as aggressive as a Norge, however, it will thrash the hell out of everything if it can't roll it over.

Most of the people I knew back in the day kept these things until they fell apart, or passed them on to the next generation. They are definitely tough.

With that stupid lid switch in the old Super, you didnt know if was overloaded because you couldnt see it agitating. I never leave either washer or dryer. But with my lid disabled, Once it starts wash, I check it, spin, make sure its not off balance. Just being anal and its worked for 32 years with no problems.
