is there a way just to trick it into thinking it is locked .. such as cloths pin etc...

depends on which model...

but for the most part, easiest thing is to take the tab from the lid, and just insert that into the port....these are odd setups, between a switch, a locking mechanism, and a magnetic clip....

on others, had to place a magnet on front, and as the lock tab pushed out, you had to push back about half way....

like I said, they have different models and versions, but most can be operated with the lid open...
