this machine is from the 1970's. It has served us very well, but now it shakes violently on spin. I have a damper pad kit, but need to get adhesive, so please recommend that. ALSO, I the three big suspension springs may need replacement. Where to get them? Do I need a brake wrench to get at the damper pads? many thanks

Maytag Damper Repair.

You will not need new springs.

You also do not need the brake removal to remove the brake assembly, just take a vice-grip pliers and clamp it on the edge and hit it with a hammer, this works much better than the silly brake tool.

However you may need to replace the aluminum damper if the damper pads are completely gone and the polished aluminum surface has gotten scored and rough.

aluminum damper

the springs do look sturdy. I will disassemble to check/change damper pads. Where do you suggest I look for an aluminum damper, if this needs replacement? I may post photo of innards once I disassemble. thanks

belts need replacing

the damper pads are installed. I am letting the adhesive set up overnight before lubing them and re-assembling. Belts want replacing. One says Maytag 2-11125-4A 4-L W
the other one says Maytag 2-11124-4B 2-M Y
Do new belts need to have exactly the same markings? Thanks, m

Make sure you get GENUINE Maytag belts, off branded belts won't work well, definitely worth the few extra $.

Clutching drive belts work for me.
