You will not need new springs.
You also do not need the brake removal to remove the brake assembly, just take a vice-grip pliers and clamp it on the edge and hit it with a hammer, this works much better than the silly brake tool.
However you may need to replace the aluminum damper if the damper pads are completely gone and the polished aluminum surface has gotten scored and rough.

the springs do look sturdy. I will disassemble to check/change damper pads. Where do you suggest I look for an aluminum damper, if this needs replacement? I may post photo of innards once I disassemble. thanks |

Make sure you get GENUINE Maytag belts, off branded belts won't work well, definitely worth the few extra $. |
