Uhmmm, errr, your washer is a lovely example of a 1-18, but I hate to tell you, it's not from the 90s, it's somewhat earlier. I hope you do stay around. Lawrence/Maytagbear |

Hi Kelly, Welcome to the club. Yes Unfortunately this is not a 90's model. Awhile after WCI bought Frigidaire they pulled the plug from General Moters. The last year these were made was 1980. I always wonder what they would have been like after the fact. Probably so different. Also you mentioned Kelvinator above and WCI also killed that one to. Unfortunately they never got to build a bigger one like Frigidaire did. WCI is just a poor example of how American business is run. So many good things kicked to the curb. Well at least here in this club we have a appreciation for these fine products. Peter |

Hey Kelly! Welcome! By your 1-18 control panel, I put your machine as one of the last GM Frigidaires, probably 1979. The designations we talk about for GM Frigidaire machines have to do with the transmission mechanism used for agitation/extraction: Unimatic 1947-1958 Pulsamatic 1955-1958 Multimatic 1959-1964 (evolved from the Pulsamatic) Rollermatic 1964-1968 1-18 1969-1979 (evolved from the Rollermatic) Kelvinators used Centric or Orbital Action for agitation. The agitator remains fixed on the shaft, but the shaft is like a crank. As the shaft turned, the agitator moved around with it without turning on its axis. On the home page here, go to the Cyber Museum pink button, then click on the ABC-O-Matic link. Scroll right and there are videos there to show you how it worked. |
