Howdy. Nice to meet you all.

This is my ol' washing machine. I am trying to find out more about it, in case I ever have to look for parts.

She doesn't look like much, but she does all my laundry, and works great. Heh.

Looks to be a Model J to me, but when I look at the serial number list here: www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T... , they all have 6-digit serial numbers, whereas mine only has a 5-digit one, "53984". There are no other markings on it that I can find, other than "General Electric Appliance Motor" on the electric motor, and "Maytag K-1430" on the arm that holds the horizontal shaft that turns the wringer.

Should I just assume that there is a "1" missing from the beginning of the serial number, and it was made in Nov 1947? Or is it just older than what is listed in that document I linked to?

Thanks everyone. :)

Howdy Lee, and welcome to "the club"!

According to the chart, I decipher the manufacture date to be July 1964.

Changing the tag line...

Hello again Lee ... you may wish to check with Robert (unimatic1140), the webmaster, to change the tag to "Wringer Washers". That way, your thread will appear in a future search for wringer washer topics.
