The drain valve should be fine, but the pump & motor will not interchange. They are different sizes. |

Steve sometimes I wish I'd saved one of my 18s, the 2nd wash arm and other features are good but I had too many KAs in the shed and had to cut down, so I saved the KDC-17 that is identical to the first new d/w we ever bought in 1974. It was in better shape and I liked the fact that they don't tend to have some of the problems of the KDSs of that era, and frankly the 17 that we had for 15 years never had a problem and did a fine job of cleaning for a family of 5, you just had to know how to load it properly, which to me is no big deal, I'm anal about loading anyway (the pin locations on my new Chinese made FD 18" machine drive me absolutely crazy!) I never had much of the yibble problem, its all in how you load. Plus it's a very simple machine, and like all KAs of the time, very well built. And... it's Coppertone!
I assume the filter and 4 way HS arm will interchange as well? |

The dryer housings are different sizes and the heaters are different wattage's [ 17s are 1100W and 18s are 800W heaters.]
The KDI-17 and KDC-17 were more reliable and less complicated than the S models especially the 18-23 S models.
But if you are really looking for the best consistent cleaning try a 1985-aproxmatly a 2000 WP Power Clean or Kenmore Ultra-Wash DW.
No Hobart KA DW ever had ideal cycle design and NONE give you a guaranteed main wash and final rinse temperature of around 150F, and WPs convection drying [ on air dry ] dries as well or better than KAs forced air drying using the wasteful and DW damaging heat dry. |
