My third grade class went on a field trip to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, starring Dick Van Dyke. It seemed incredibly classy to sit in a theatre with my class, as opposed to sitting with 6 siblings in the 1965 Ford Country Squire at a drive in watching a Disney film. Ancient and fond memories of youth. A previous year or so, my first grade class saw Dr Doolittle!
The theatre being 1/2 block away from the school made those field trips EASY for the school. Mary Tyler Moore did some fine comedy, good shows from the 60's and 70's. |

Our school never did that, but we had the next best thing - a 20 ft. wide CinemaScope screen in the auditorium. Saw movies in there every holiday; seen were Psycho, The Thrill of it All, WB cartoons, Gold Diggers of 1933, Our Gang and several others. |

Obviously, you didn't go to Catholic school! Our school viewed movies from time to time, one of which was "The Long Long Trailer" featuring Lucy and Desi. They were married in real life at the time. Whenever they shared an on-screen kiss, one of the nuns would hold a 3X5 card oven the projector lens!
Life was tough in the 50s! |
