Hi to all,

Yesterday I went to pick up a washing machine that was on sale on our "for sale" website.
It is a washer I wanted for a long time, but unfortunately I always found the combo version, which has a revolving part on the door (one side when washing, the other when drying) which does not allow you to see the washing action.

So this time I was lucky two times, not only because I've found the one I was looking for, but also because I found one that was never used.

The washer in question is a EUDORA. An original and legendary brand from Austria famous for reliable, long-lasting and technologically leading household appliances.

So here are some pictures of it ...

Ingemar

Congratulations Ingemar! Always fun to find machines you've wanted for a long time, it seems eventually we really do find them. And to find it never used on top of it all!

Wonderful find Ingemar! I love the spin distribution with the pendulum system, I guess this machine has that too? I love the models with the controls on top. These were the real compacts. BTW, the combos are rather rare machines, quite fascinating that you came across so many.

Hi Robert, thank you!

Yes it is indeed a satisfaction. Sometimes we are rewarded for the wait.
I wasn't expecting however, to find a never used one but better that way :-)

Hi, thank you Louise

Yes! You are right, it has the distribution spin with the pendulum system.
Can't wait to try it.

Also I like a lot the washers with the controls on top. They are so.... vintage. I love also the detergent dispenser on top.

Well, regarding the combos from Eudora I don't know what to say. Probably if I was looking to find a combo I would have found lot of "just washers". Maybe murphy's law has something to do with this .... ;-)

So, I replaced my still working 12 years old Gorenje with the newcomer.
The Gorenje will now rest in my cellar. Now I will use the EUDORA as my daily driver.

I've run a test wash and everything is ok.

It is small, but the capacity is 4 kg, that's only 1 kg less of an avarage (European) washing machine capacity.

Looks Great! Glad you found your dream washer:

Looking at the internals of this washer I can see where they are known for quality.  I really like it.  One question and maybe I am just blind.  How does the suspension work in this machine?  Is it suspended from the top of the frame?  Again congratulations and happy washing.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for the congratulations. This machine has no suspensions. The tub is mounted on the frame. It has a simple but effective system, a pendulum which turns off the spin when off balance. It runs on casters, so during the spin it cradles right and left a bit. But the spin cycle is only 550 rpm, so this is possible even without a suspension system.

I will make a video soon.

Very good observation Nick! The pendulum system mentioned is like the pendulum of a clock. When the machine goes off balance too much the pendulum reaches a contact (on the left or the right side) that switches off the spin. The machine retries again until the pendulum doesn't touch the contact anymore, then it spins the laundry.

Hello Ingemar well I never expected to see a prized Gorenje swapped out but do understand, ha ha . These are lovely machines with a big twist of vintage...I had a close up of Chris`s (ServisChris) a few years ago when we paid a visit to do a few repairs on his Eudora made compact Bendix etc...really like them, Are you using a separate spinner then ?

Here are pics of Marks compact Bendixx am on the hunt for Chris`s...

Hello Mike :-)

hehehe don't worry the Gorenje is still safe and sound. She is resting a bit in my cellar.

Now I will play for a while with the Eudora, because it is a washing machine that has always fascinated me.
I'm planning to do some videos too soon.

Wow, the Mark's little Bendix is really adorable.

Yes Mike, now I'm using a separate spinner, before putting the laundry into the dryer.

Ingemar

Here's a video that shows how the balance system with the pendulum works. It does numerous attempts to spin, but they all fail until 2:30, the pendulum stays put and the machine can perform a spin cycle.

Thank you Louis for the video. Honestly I don't know but I guess this is the only household washer that used this pendulum system for the spin cycle.

It is a funny coincidence that in the video on the right side is an old gorenje washer :-P

This is the later 80`s Bendix with front detergent dispenser, flexible time and temperature, with spin / no spin drip dry and low or high water level.

No Mike, my AEG is totally different. It is on springs to compensate for the lack of suspension. There is no sensor, it just starts spinning. When it's off balance it performs a little dance, not as bad as the Hajdu machines though as you can find them on Youtube.

thanks for the lovely pictures. The compact version is even more compact than the classic Eudora which is anyway compact. Really cute.

"What does the link rod do connected to the timer, does it drive it?"

Yes Mike, as far as I know it does this. The movement of the drive wheel pushes forward the timer.

Hello, I picked up this little Bendix compact 7159 washer today- a Eudora rebadge. Tiny little thing, transported it on the back seats of a friends car! (Smaller than a US compact appliance, will get the measuring tape out later. ) Changed the spin OOB microswitch and blew down the pressure switch as it wouldnt spin, tested later and it works. It was brought back in the 80s by its original owner, who used it for a few months before getting a newer place with a full size unit but kept it as a spare, its hardly been used.

WIll get some more pics later, heres one of it perched on the back seats!

Chris

Hi Chris

glad you found another Eudora (Bendix) to save. It is even better to find one almost new.
You can tell from the picture that it was hardly been used.

Very beautiful
