Well, my good old Kenmore belt drive has been getting noisier for a while and now the timer failed,,almost at the same time the 73 Lady Kenmore dryer began schreeching and banging, since I will do just about anything not to work on laundry equipment, I made a TERRIBLE descision, I bought a early 80s Maytag set from a used appliance dealer,Why???, darned if I know, the washer does exactly like every other MT washer I have ever encountered, it shakes trembles and walks all over the place during every 1 out of 3 loads, the dryer is SLOWER than Christmas and in the month I have had them our electric bill went up 35 dollars, the dryer is now squeaking intermittently,I HATE THESE MONSTOSITIES, That Kenmore NEVER got out of balance, I'm NOT going in debt for new junk, The Tags may be spoken for, but if they don't get taken, anyone interested..Im talking with friends about replacements, it will probably be a GE/Hotpoint filter flow or another belt drive Kenmore...Any suggestions...Oh to get a good Westinghouse front load set!

Sorry to hear of you laundry room woes, Hans. I won't even joke with you about getting a nice, shiny new Maytag HE front-load set, LOL.

Hopefully the universe will guide another belt-drive Kenmore pair your way soon.

The obvious question is: why did you buy some then?

Well I don't love Maytags, don't hate them either.  You need a good set of 1-18's and you know who might sell you a set!

And a Speed Queen:

There are some older Whirlpools to on Craigslist, don't know if they are belt drives.

I looked and all the Whirlpools that were "older" were direct drives.  I saw one Hotpoint Rim Flow.

I guess

I bought them because they looked nice and I figured my previous bad experiences were just bad luck...well, just as every GM product I ever owned was bad luck, so it seems is every Tag!!!LOL

Reply #7, the  SQ looks like  fun.  It might be time to just buy a new WP made 29 inch dryer without all the bells and whistles.  The Whirly's behave like what most of us are accustomed to.

a little old, meets a little new.....and maybe the best of both worlds....

you need a NEPTUNE!

now if we could just find someplace where you could try one out on your comforter.....and take a set home for a trial!

I think

Donald really wants the Neptunes, I'm like Jerry Gay was when they first came out,,he told them at Bobby Teague appliance if they would cut a window in them he would buy them..LOL, Donald is so good to help me with everything I guess I can live with something new he wants, a reduction in the water bill would be nice....And he really is a longsuffering partner who puts up with all my collecting and never really complains.

I was thinking of your flooring layout, and the vibration/walking issues of the Maytag TL......

in retrospect, a 1-18 has a similar suspension setup......

versus the 3 rod setup of your previous Kenmore belt drive....

my first Neptunes were installed in the kitchen on a wood floor....super quiet and stable....

but there always was something about that 3000 series motor winding up on final spin like a jet!....a feature I wished they kept....

well, its settled, next time your here, take a set of mine home and try them out.....

Washer and dryer options

Hi Hans and Donald, you know I've still got a 72 lady Kenmore that's very meant here with your name on it that will match the dryer you have now, whatever you do don't get rid of the 72 lady Kenmore dryer I can easily rebuild that for you and send this washer along as well.

Once you've had a lady Kenmore and a 29 inch whirlpool built dryer a Maytag set doesn't come close nor does anything else really.

The new Neptunes would be interesting the washers are pretty decent the dryer so so little bit better than the MT dryer that you have now.

Even though I have six sets of May tags in the museum none of them would ever make it to my daily laundry in my home, if I had to use a Helical Drive Maytag washer as my only machine I would not be in the appliance collecting business it's just to average at best.

So either you guys get up here and get this Kenmore washer and bring that dryer along or get Bob O to bring them up here and I can send them back with some good Kenmore's.

Thanks John,

The LK dryer needs new rollers in back, other than that it works great,It suddenly began making a terrible racket so I took the bottom plate off and could see what was going on, in my state of mind lately I did not have patience to tackle fixing it,6 deaths in 2 months have about got me and Donald WORN OUT!!!!But man, I wish I had never seen that Shake O Matic Maytag!...I will call you soon.

You could always take out a mortgage, buy a new speed queen set and hope for the best.....there are actually a few used speed queen machines at some of the used appliance places too.
