Yes! A big Valentine of Gratitude to the Members who tirelessly search the internets for machines that they have no intention of buying, and for which they receive no personal gain but are thnking only of other people. That is a class act. Over the course of the next couple weeks, am going to show the joy they’ve brought to me and what I’ve done with the machines they've found, giving thorough back stories for each one. Would like to invite everyone else who has benefitted to do the same if you get the chance..
First, Thanks to Jeff Retroguy for this, long, longed -for dream machine, a 1965 Lady K “Fingernails.” For years and years I wanted a keyboard having used one in a home I rented for two years. Then when I saw the 65,—Paul’s— I was smitten, preferring it over all others. When Jeff posted this, I went right after it, but it was a really long haul getting it here. The owner, a totally affable guy named Joe, bought it because it was so amazing looking, according to him. He bought it for the “look” of the 65, a budding collector perhaps. But then he needed money, and decided to sell it, and joked that when he gets rich, he’ll want to buy it back. The shipping horrors I’ll save for later, but this machine has a maneuver that drives me crazy with delight: an agitated fill during the cool down, not to mention the fact that it is a suds, double heaven. |

Well i will apologize in advance because i can not remember who posted either of these sets in the shoppers forum. I guess i was too busy licking my chops and getting the truck out to go fetch them.....lol Anyway, thank you to whomever it was that posted these sets. I got the Maytag set in mid 2014 and the Lady Kenmore in mid 2016.

Nice, Scott! Hey, I almost goofed on Retroguy, so I combed thru the Shopper's Club Archives, till I found him. It goes pretty quick once you recall the time frame. I had thought that Laundress, Goatfarmer, Strictkybojack, or one of the other regulars--and there are so many now !-- had posted the 65 LK.

How appropriate for the giant red heart of the "grande dame" of Manhattan. A thousand thanks to a tireless donor of Aworg, T-H-E Launderess.
A major tragedy befell my Norge, even though my mate, Nick, says we can resurrect her. It happened a few months after Cimberlee posted this treasure, which I had passed on, owning another model, and really surprised that it was still available. The last owner's name is Susan. She was a sweetheart to work with, living in Worchester, Massachusetts. A potterer by trade, she had this machine in her shop simply as retro-decor. Ten years previous, she and her son were visiting a town nearby, and were quickly smitten with machine that was sitting pretty in the window of a "Gently Used" shop on the main road. They had actually driven away, but turned around and went back for it. The previous owner had purchased it from the close-out sale of an independent appliance store that was going out of business. The sad signs of those times to which our friend Fred, Blackkstone, can attest are still disappointing memories. So although no longer NIB (new-in-box), this machine looks to have had no use. This is Borg Warner majesty: "We are Borg. Resistance is futile. We will assimilate you." Hahaha. The giant red lid is to die for, a massive red heart, a giant red valentine. Thank you dear sweet Cimberlee. |
