We just picked up the new Maytag Jetclean DW! We haven't installed it, but Id like to clean some of these certain parts before we do. For one, why is the upper spray arm stained pure white? Also parts of the lower arm and tub are pretty white too, but the arm is stained. How can I clean that?

The racks on this thing are NICE!!! Im already very happy with how it looks! Just hope it works well!

I would try soaking it in vinegar overnight. Run the dishwasher on a pots and pan cycle after.

Just dump a gallon of vinegar in there and run it the next morning.

I would add the vinegar when the main wash begins circulating.

Lemishine also helps with this sort of thing.  It leaves the stainless interior on my machine gleaming.

You can find it at Target if vinegar doesn't do the trick.

Dang!

Well, while cleaning out under my sink I threw away some lemi shine tablets. Whatever, I'll find something else. Vinegar I heard is good too, but Im definitely going to take those arms off and give them a good scrub. Will post final pictures when cleaned & installed. Hopefully soon.

Was thinking about using the Cascade dishwasher cleaner, but Im not sure if it removes that extreme build up. Were going to try to use Tang, which apparently works very well. We'll see about that. Scrubbing those arms for definite sure though.

nice machine, but not exactly in the best of shape at the moment.....

one of two things, either its detergent residue, or lime/scale from water conditions....CLR and LimeAway will take care of that just the same...

but in any case.....this vid will get you started on removing the wash arm, and to gain access to the parts underneath, that your going to want to clean out of any debris, save yourself the trouble of doing it now.....

those tall tubs are super nice, amazing the amount of dishes you can fit in there, top or bottom rack....

Hmm I think I'd just run a cycle with normal detergent.

The white stuff may just be mold release.

I concur - run a normal cycle with a regular detergent first

panthera's profile picture

It may get rid of nearly all of the white stuff.

If that doesn't do the trick, but a lot is removed, try again.

It's better to try citric acid on an unknown deposit first. Vinegar and several minerals form a very hard to remove deposit.

If the citric acid does the job, great - if not - CLR will, BUT be sure you rub some vaseline over the plastic and metal around the vent holes. It can leave a film there or even attack the metal.

Get a container of lemishine granules and fill both detergent cups, run it on the longest/hottest wash. Should take care of all that residue. We have very hard water and usually use a tiny bit in each load, maybe half a teaspoon? Don't use a lot regularly or it will eat the racks up.

We have a 1997 Maytag Jetclean and I swear it would wash the chrome off a trailer hitch. Wonderful dishwasher, I hate to think of the day it breaks beyond repair.

oh cool - you finally got it

That wash arm looks exactly like my maytag. I love my machine. No problems yet almost 3 yrs old.

Anything with citric acid it in (sugar free lemonade drink mix powder) will eat that white stuff away, as with vinegar....but you have to make sure it starts in the main wash, or else it will get drained out during the first pre-wash

I was thinking about running CLR through it. But I would only want to run the CLR through the wash cycle, not any the pre rinse cycles so how do I know when it has advanced into the wash cycle?

The first fill and "wash" is the prewash cycle.  The next fill will be for main wash cycle.  I suggest use pots & pans cycle with high temp wash.  If you don't use the heaviest cycle (pots & pans), the sensor will detect it's empty of dishes and skip the drain between prewash and wash and go right into the main wash.  The tag will tell you what model # this is and you can download the use & care manual from the Maytag web site.

CLR Cafeful Notice

CLR may not harm stainless steel. But please be careful with it. We sprayed CLR on the Chrome bathroom sink faucet and the Chrome bathtub faucets. We let it stay on too long, they recommend only 15 minutes. The CLR actually removed the Chrome plating from the faucets or at least severely damaged it and we had to replace the faucets, with the bath we replaced only the visible portions. So be careful with how much time that stuff is in there.

You have the exact same style dishwasher pretty much, I have one question. Is the lower spray arm supposed to be a tiny bit loose and jiggle when you spin it? Ive never had this type of dishwasher so I have no idea whats normal and what isnt normal.

And thanks for the input appnut. I had no clue how many pre rinse cycles these newer DW's went through, as my older Hotpoint goes through about 3-4. So wasteful compared to these new ones.

Yes

the lower wash arm does wiggle some.

It had been a few months since I had ran citric acid through mine, so after I finished a load last night and unloaded it - (I fill the main wash full of citric acid), then I put on the jetclean cycle which runs about 2 and a half hours. When done, the stainless, heating element, everything shined like new. Hopefully if your dishwasher is in working condition, you can get it looking new again inside.

Mine too Dustin, it's just taking a vacation in MIL's basement while the new KUDI23 is working hard.  My 97 Maytag still works great, just needs a little TLC after almost 20 years of trouble-free operation.  I'm going to return it to it's portable state in a custom-built kitchen island to use for a spare.

I just noticed something about my Maytag

mark_wpduet's profile picture
The other day, I used the Jetclean steam cycle completely empty with citric acid. When the machine is empty, it makes a much more noticeable water sloshing while the machine is running, right? So fast forward to my dishwasher being full last night and I needed to run it, and I always just hit start to start the cycle because the machine remembers the last cycle. The dishwasher was packed full of dishes.

Not paying attention and I had forgotten that I had the last cycle on Jetclean/Steam which I almost never use, but I end up using normal, hi temp, tough scrub, no dry. While the machine was running, it sounded like a LOT more vigorous water sloshing than I'm used to hearing and it was at this point I noticed it was on Jetclean/Steam, so I let it go. I just thought jetclean/steam had a longer wash cycle and perhaps more rinses, but I had no clue it had a more vigorous wash action or filled with more water per fill, but apparently it does.
