Make that two.

This morning I decided to clean the filter on my Miele Diamante after emptying it of last night's load.  As I placed the whole assembly into the sink, the bottom popped open from the inner filter cover and two mismatched screws fell out.

I made a visual check to see if there were other screws like them, but found zero screws fastening anything on the interior of the machine.

I have no idea where these screws came from.  Meanwhile, the machine is operating normally and there are no leaks.  Any suggestions on the possible purpose of these two screws would be appreciated.  They're both a little less than 1" long.  It looks like they've been swirling around in the filter assembly for quite some time.

Have you checked any handles your pots and pans that might be loose? I know I have a couple of pots that have plastic handles that are attached by screws like the ones you show here. I had that blessed event happen to me once with a Whirlpool PowerClean dishwasher that I had back in the 90's and I had to take the pump apart to find the screws which were at the bottom where the seal and platform area was for the pump. It didnt get into the grinder or sizing plate but I wanted to make sure I would have an issue later on.

Mike, I thought of that, but all cookware I use regularly is intact.  I'm going to think about this for a while to see if I remember running anything through the machine in recent months that would have had screws holding it together.   Considering they're mismatched, maybe they weren't original to whatever they had been attached to.

Did you perhaps keep a few screws in a mug or so and forgot about it, put the mug in the dishwasher?

Louis, that is a distinct possibility!   You have triggered a vague memory of hearing something hit the bottom of the tub upon loading, but not being able to find anything when I looked.

I think I'm going to run with your theory and stop worrying about this.

All of the screws on the Miele dishwashers are Torx headed, so they definitely didnt come from the machine itself.

Thanks Nathan, that's good to know.  I'm pretty sure the scenario Louis suggested is how the screws ended up where they did.
